Thanks everyone for the input.

I'd sure at least try the WD diag tools; at least the "QUICK TEST". Not sure which model:

I'd also try a different cable and port on the motherboard. I've had one SATA cable go bad on me.

I hope you have the data backed up.

I have had some very odd issues with my box since I installed a 1tb WD "green" drive. I too have suspected the drive, but haven't done anything about it so far.

I get random PVRX2.exe freezes. Kill the process, start it over and its fine. I have to kill the process or reboot pretty much daily. WAF is certainly waning. :-(

I'll need to get it imaged over to my 750gb Seagate before long.

thanks guys for the replies.

I believe the quick test simply pools the smart drive status which my motherboad reports as fine.

Yes the drive would freeze everything for abut 30 seconds and then come back and continue on. These western digital green drives have some other software users in raid configs seeking answers to some problems. One was that the drive would park the heads much too frequently and thus make the drives blast into their max limit number of parks and thus reducing the drives life expectancy. There was a software fix for this but it was dos only and i never bothered to try to burn a dos cd with the file...

I theory that in my problem the drive would reach a buffer limit around 8 minutes and thus kick itself into full power mode which requires a timeout and thus the freeze itself.

I am not worried about losing the 1.5 tb of movies and shows on the drive as I have no plans to keep the shows as archived and simply want a choice to watch something when nothing is on hehe.

Media drives have a higher failure rate after one year and I expect my drives to lose data or freeze up after that period and there really is no viable alternative to back up so much data anyway.

I do enjoy live concerts so that is gonna break my heart if losing some of them.
