A couple of Rosewill ones from NewEgg for $30 or $35 plus shipping. I used to use one from Rosewill, might of been one of these, but now I have fewer devices. Never had any problem with it. They go on sale sometimes. I'm pretty sure I paid less than the prices above.

I looked it up. The one I have is no longer available. I paid $39 with free shipping, but I'm pretty sure there was a $25 rebate.

Trendnet is what my last one was - worked for a couple months, then started giving erratic transfer speeds. Specs are specs, but quality is what counts.

I got the D-link DES 1024D today and installed it - several large transfer went lickity split with no issues!

Quality is most important, that is true - did you contact trendnet - it says the unit has a 5 year warranty?

No, I didn't mess with the warranty - I got it cheap on a NewEgg sale and to me it's not worth the shipping cost back and the downtime. I limped along on it while I bought another one and waited for it to arrive and called it good.

The D-link is kinda weighty and has a metal case, looks may be deceiving but so far it looks like a lot better quality unit than the Trendnet it replaced.

I try to read reviews and stuff before I buy things - and if all else fails I post a note here! And all the advice so far has been spot on! Smile

Just an update - the used DES-1024 D-Link switch I bought off of fleaBay has been working perfectly! Smile

I mounted it vertically to the inside, right side of my desk. That puts the transformat at the top. I mounted it about 2/3 the way up from the floor so it has plenty of head room to dissipate heat and it doesn't seem to get very warm at all.

I wish the rj-45s were in the back, but beyond that I have no complaints so far!

Sweet! Glad to hear that it's working well. I have mine rack mounted, just below my whole-house patch panel, so the front ports work out perfectly. Wink
