LOL, isn't that always the way of it? That's been the result of many of my initially exciting computer projects.

Quote:I may fiddle with the desktop thing if I can find a way to automate it and bind it to a menu option (shut down GBPVR, change resolution, restart), but it doesn't seem like an especially reliable solution.
You can kill the GB-PVR UI from a batch file with this command:
Code:
taskkill /f /im pvrx2.exe
then, there are various resolution change utilities. I've used one called 'resomatic' (http://www.bcheck.net/apps/reso.htm), which lets you create a shortcut that switches resolutions, runs an app, then switches back when finished. You can also just call it from a batch file with the appropriate parameters.
Quote:On a side note, johnsonx42, thank you very much for your extensive replies and explanations as I worked through this. Appreciated!
Always happy to help.

Oh, something you *may* want to expirement with...

I have a similar Sony projection TV, but it's a little older. It's not HD at all, and it's component inputs only accept a 480i siginal. Rather than use the component input and be limited to 640x480 or 720x480, I opted to use S-Video instead. All video cards allow up to 1024x768 via S-Video.

Yes, S-Video is not really 1024x768, it gets downsampled to standard NTSC resolution before it goes over the wire. However, I find the picture quality to be noticeably better that way (probably due to a natural anti-aliasing/interpolation effect of being rendered at a higher resolution and then being downscaled). HD content may not be truely HD, but it looks good, far better than SD. Text in Windows may be tough to read, but the GB-PVR UI looks great. There's some fiddling to be done in Catalyst Control Center, settings like "S-Video Sharpness" and "Flicker Filter", along with the screen size and centering adjustments.

Only you can say whether the quality you get on your TV from S-Video at 1024x768 is good enough.

But it isn't for me. It comes at a fixed aspect ratio, which I believe is 0,0,1,1 when in playback mode. F7 does not switch modes. Is there some special configuration to turn that on in the playback, or do I need to select a specific playback?

I have no idea, I've never had to do anything special to get Aspect Ratio control to work. Start a new thread to get others' attention... whatever problem you're having it's completely unrelated to this thread.
