I'm using an HVR2250. I have two capture sources set up with BDA Recording Plugins - QAM tuning - ATSC type.

I've read what I can find about the BDA Multiplexer setting on the Misc2 tab, but I don't understand the difference between the three options - Microsoft DVR-MS, TS Mux, and full TS.

Can someone briefly explain the benefits of each, and recommend which one I should select? So much to learn...

Simplyu stated, GBPVR copies the digital stream that it receives fromn the tuner into a file on disk. The multiplexor dictates the type of file on disk ...

DVR-MS uses a software widget from Microsoft to create a something.DVR-MS file ... this is a file layout invented by MS and seems to be good if reception is dodgy and there are breaks in the input stream.

TS uses a software widget written by Sub to create a something.ts file. This is the way to go if reception is good.

Full TS is ditto TS but it writes every channel of the Multiplex/frequency into the file ... produces a huge file and is only used for diagnosing problems.

Note that the files all contain the same MPEG2 stream that is broadcast ... it's the "layout" of the file that is different. ... Google for "container" if you need more.

Thanks Graham, that's a nice simple explanation - the kind even I can understand!

There is also the Cyberlink mux that produces mpg files directly.
I have to say though the TS mux seems to produce the most reliable recordings for me if there is a glitch or anything. MPG used to just stop or pause for a number of seconds, where TS just give a moments pixelation and carries on.

Merging this explanation with what already exists in the wiki about the Misc2 tab would be very helpful.
