No way I would be saying how good there work if I was going through that often, I very occasionally get something that upsets it during playback & need to do a cold boot but then the same thing happened with the MVP's as well occasionally.

Intrigued, how can my PCH be more stable than my 3 MVP's all @ 98.9% stability? Ah ha with another 1.1%!

I should have asked for help.....

Honestly just thought it was a 'thing' with my PCH. Bought just out of warrantee and only ever been used for initial testing as a standalone device on the network then with GB-PVR in my study for a few days before it bricked and would not even boot. End result was it went back to US. (Never had to send back an MVP!)

When it came back worked great for a few weeks then started getting quirky again. In meantime STB went down so it moved downstairs as main box of tricks and Mrs Steeb was most impressed over response time compared to MVP but never thought to question the booting as I thought this was just 'the way it was'! (and I had kinda lost some faith with the whole bricked thing)

WAF increase regain not a problem, after all the STB from a major manufacturer broke so she has actually been quite impressed with the way PCH has worked, when it boots correctly....

So a chance of solving!?

Cheers

With the right info there's more than a chance. Open a new ticket in the correct forum with the output from the NMT Syntax checker tool and the logs of your connect (with AutoStart MVP Server set to 1) and I will confirm your setup.

Honestly, I don't see what NMT gives me vs MVP. As at least here in the states there is no recordable access to most HD material. Until there is a reasonable Cable Card solution, almost all ability to record is SD, except for local stations, so what does .ts do for me?

Truth is when it is HD, I will probably use my XBox360. I understand Sub's motivation, but I guess it's an end of the line for usefulness for a lot of people. I guess I could go the whole transcoding route (I have the PC power), we'll see.

I have an HDPVR ($165 on sale) connected to an HD STB ($10/month) recording HD and SD content that plays really well on the NPVR/NMT combination and it is incredibly stable and reliable (one power reset in the last month even during beta). Although I am in Canada your experience should be similar.

An Xbox360 alternative isn't bad with 7mc, they have even more limitations on the video and audio formats they can play (ie no mpg, no DVD's)

Might be very well that I am an old dinosaur, but the system is quit stable running GBPVR 1.4.7 and 4 MVP in the house.
tried to upgrade to NPVR about a year ago, but starting/stopping and skipping back and forth wasn't that great on NPVR/MVP as GBPVR/MVP so I switched back.
Capture source is analog, so no harm done there.

But, my cable provider added DVB-C for free (!!) so I included a PCTV-520e, managed to change BDA.ini, mapped the digital channels to EPG (thank to the old wiki).
Picture quality improved quite a lot, but playback on MVP is back due to the on-the-fly transcoding of .ts to .mpg

auto-convert from .ts to .mpg is broken on GBPVR 1.4.7 (see http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...ot-Working).
How can I solve this with PostProcessing.bat ?

I am thinking like "C:\Program Files\Devnz\GBPVR\Third Party\ffmpeg\ffmpeg.exe" -y -i "%1" -vcodec copy -acodec copy -f dvd "%1".mpg >> \\atlas\movies\convert.txt
but how do I make sure that GBPVR know the updated file?

I personally don't support the MVP or GBPVR anymore, however a quick look at that PostProcessing line shows it is transcoding only and it doesn't help to convert HD ts to SD mpg. Assuming you still don't to change very much your best bet would be to select an alternate mux which would then record directly to mpg (mpeg-ps).

Hi Martin,

Thanks for the quick reply. No need to convert to SD since all the recordings are captured in SD (although via DVB-C).
I'll take your advice into account and go looking for another mux to record in mpeg-ps directly.
Many thanks for your hard work on the mvp-dongle. The Feb-2011 issue is working like a charm at all our 4 MVP's !!

Solved it twice ;-)
1) installed a Cyberlink muxer to directly record in mpg-ps (disadvantage: can capture only one digital channel per receiver)
2) made changes in config.xml so that auto-convert does work (disadvantage: can not start watching while recording is in progress)
<AutoConvertTSToFormat>TsToMpg</AutoConvertTSToFormat>
<CustomFFmpegConversions>
<Conversion name="TsToMpg" cmd="-y -i {SOURCE_FILE} -vcodec copy -acodec copy -f dvd {DEST_FILE}" targetExtension=".mpg" />
.....
</CustomFFmpegConversions>
