I know this is all probably old hat for you guys, but here's what I got anyway:
First, specs:
AMD 3000+
512mb DDR ram
Asus k8n mb (nvidia onboard digital and analog audio ports)
Hauppauge 150MCE
MCE2005 IR Remote
160gb SATA150 hdd
XP Pro SP2
I'm hooking up the PVR PC to my stereo receiver, a Sony STR-DE545, using a digital fiber SPDIF monster cable (not the multi-cable analog).
I first wrestled for hours about why I couldn't get 5.1 to work.. turned out I needed to use Nvidia's installer package and not piecemeal the drivers seperately. The package includes a mixer and output customizer that shifts the output over to digital and finally translates 5.1 digital signals properly.
Now that I could verify that 5.1 surround was possible outside of GBPVR, I set about trying to get it to work within.
So far, I have been unsuccessful. In fact these two problems have existed since initial installation, irregardless of my attempts to solve the 5.1 issue:
1) Audio output for DVD is restrained to 2.0 surround only.
2) No audio output during playback of previous tv recordings, even though full playback is possible outside of the application. (note: live playback gets stereo audio, no problem)
Inside GB-PVR's config app, the only audio output options, for either MPEG or DVD, I have are:
System Default
MPEG Audio Decoder
NVIDIA Audio Decoder
Audio Renderers:
System Default
NVidia nForce Audio
Default DirectSound Device
Default WaveOut Device
DirectSound NVidia nForce Audio
Regardless of what combination of decoders / renderers I use, the result remains exactly the same.
I admit, from this point forward my understanding of what needs to change is virtually nonexistant. I don't really have a clue what's needed to make GB-PVR output properly, or who/what provides it.
All I really do know is, from applications such as VLAN player, 5.1 output is achievable. And from players such as VLAN or WMP, recorded MPEG's output audio just fine.
Can someone a) help me make sense of what I seem to be missing intellectually, and b) help me to resolve these two problems?
Thanks,
Bob
