My bad - it's "Nero Video Decoder" not "Codec". Sorry!

Does this mean you guys are all using it?
How are the results? Any good?
Anyone using it and has removed ffdshow?
Can you still watch all the XviDs / DivXs out there?
Thanks,
GGF

I am having issues getting my mp4 to play in gbpvr. The files play outside of GBPVR using WMP10 or Nero ShowTime. But when I select a file from My Videos or Video Library in GBPVR the file will not play.

Any ideas?

MP4 files refer to the fact that the audio and video are contained in an MP4 "container", however the audio and video can be encoded in any number of different formats. The two common formats are:
- AVC/h.264 video and AAC audio
- ASP (aka DIVX/XVID) video and audio commonly uses MP3 or DD or rarely AAC

You need a Directshow "MP4 file paser/splitter" to read the MP4 file (container) and split the video and audio streams to the decoders. The problem is Windows is natively unaware of ".MP4" files therefore doesn't know what Directshow filter to use.

Nero Showtime uses the "Nero Digital Parser" filter and WMP also taps into this filter, however Windows does not associate .MP4 file type with that filter, which means it doesn't work natively in Directshow, hence does not work in GBPVR.

In my experience, I found you need to install another MP4 file paser/splitter which configures windows to associate the MP4 file type to that filter. I use the "Haali Media Splitter". This is commonly bundles in codec packs which probably explains why some of you are having success while others are not.

AVC is very processor intensive and i found that the Nero decoder drove my CPU to 100% resulting in jerky playback on VMR9.

I highly recommend CoreAVC. It is written with extreamly efficient code which keeps your CPU load down to a similiar level as MPEG2 playback and provides very smooth playback on Nero AVC transcoded files. The codec pack includes the CoreAVC video decoder, CoreAAC audio decoder and Haali media splitter, plus automated installer. It is not free, however it is quite cheap.
