I started thinking about this and have a few questions.

First, would you want a single file across all active MVP devices, or a different one for each? I'm guessing one-for-all, but wanted to double check.

Second, should the file only exist while a device is "streaming", or should it exist when a device is connected, but "idle"?

I posted an updated version of the plugin to the wiki that was compiled with .NET 2.0 and includes some basic logging which might help troubleshoot issues better.

Please try out the updated version of the plugin, and then review the log entries for "MVP_Tray_Icon" and see if they identify anything useful.

There should be some entries near the beginning of the log file that show what data the plugin extracted from config.xml:

Code:
11/17/2006 4:43:33 PM.546    VERBOSE    [1]    MVP_Tray_Icon: launched
11/17/2006 4:43:33 PM.546    VERBOSE    [1]    MVP_Tray_Icon::ReadSettings() MAC-000DFE00310B = Downstairs
11/17/2006 4:43:33 PM.546    VERBOSE    [1]    MVP_Tray_Icon::ReadSettings() MAC-000DFE00310A = Upstairs Tray

There should also be an entry like this when the MVP first connects:

Code:
11/17/2006 4:43:43 PM.781    VERBOSE    [9]    MVP_Tray_Icon::Listener::Notify() checking names for: 000DFE00310A
11/17/2006 4:43:43 PM.781    VERBOSE    [9]        found: Upstairs Tray

i believe i may have found something. i had installed the MVP screen position tool. in the config panel under settings it gives me a mac id for the downstairs MVP. this mac number is the number i have been using. i just checked the bottom of the actual devise (after neglecting to do so in the first placeSad ) and it is of course different from the config settings:confused: . i have changed the number in the config.xml to what is on the device but am in the middle of some recordings so will have to wait till they are done to try it out. i will post back to let everyone know how it worked.

thanks for the help.Smile

I would like to have a single file across all the active MVP devices. If any one of the MVP streaming, then the c:\streaming.txt creates then remove after none of the MVP active streaming.

Someone else might be interested in the connect status file, but I am not concern about it when I reboot or hibernate the PC.

Thanks.

Dan L.

you didn't change the account under wich the recordingservice is running?
If you don't run it under the local system account then you can't use the mvp tray icon. Has something to do with not being able to interfere with the desktop then.

nope havent changed anything like that. - could it be that im starting the config / gbpvr via remote desktop connection ? - same login account but not sure if that has something to do with it.
