I know its not something you want to do, but it would be better if this MVP Tray icon ran as a separate process, and just got its status using interprocess communication to a smaller data collection plugin running in the MVP server instance. It would also do away with the need to have the 'allow service to interact with desktop' setting enabled, which Microsoft recommends against these days.

I've added a <MVPLoadPluginsEarlier> setting in config.xml in the next release. Its set to 'false' be default, since I still think its preferrable to have plugins loaded after the MVP connects, but at least the user will be able to tweak this behaviour if needed.

I understand this point, which is why I've suggested that perhaps one of the other existing tray icon projects that run as a separate application might want to take on this functionality. The actual intelligence behind MVP Tray Icon is very simple, it just uses IEventNotification to watch for changes and reflects them in the tray, so a tray icon project which already has some kind of interprocess communication implemented should be able to add MVP icons pretty easily.

Thanks Smile Hopefully this will clear up the problem with the icons not displaying at all prior to connection.

For those that don't need an interactive toolbar, the next build of mvpmc will show what playing in mvpmc's web server. The logic was there, I didn't think people really cared to know.

Code:
Built: Wed Nov 7 13:10:10 EST 2007
System Time Wed Nov 7 14:01:11 2007
Now Playing:
C:\mp3\ROBERT~1\COMICO~1\01STAY~1.MP3

We'd need a wishlist item for GBPVR to pass the long filename.

I think the Hauppauge MVP dongle insists on the short name - primarily to avoid multi-byte character set issues.

I also like the MVP Tray Icon and use 2 instances. Since I upgraded to 1.0.16 and PVRX2 I've noticed that the "red" icon no longer works properly. When an MVP turns off, the icon does turn red, but if I mouse over the icon it disappears from the tray. When either MVP is on, the icon(s) appears and works as it did with v99.12. It makes it easy to see when someone is using an MVP (and also when Net Radio was stopped, but the station is still streaming).

Subs going to fix this (well sort off), when the MVP disconnects then all the plugins for that instance also stops, next release there will be a setting in the config to allow the plugins to run when the MVP is off...... It will be a true false setting and defualt to false so the new version runs as "designed" but can be changed for stuff like MVP Tray Icon.

However this will have other effects as all plugins will still run as well (might be a large overhead, dont think so though).

Did i get that all right sub?

Big Grin
Many Thanks

Major Hostility Wrote:Separately, what kinds of issues are people seeing with the MVP Tray Icon in 1.0.16? Does it not show up at all? Does it show up inconsistently?

Mostly cosmetic for me, it still works but:
  • I get the same error in the log as SFX in post 114 of this thread.
  • Apart from that, if I turn off the MVP the icon turns red, but doesn't disappear from the tray until I wave the mouse pointer over it.
  • Sometimes when I restart GBPVR it doesn't come up but its pretty random, i.e. I can't reproduce it.
  • Sometimes I get multiple icons, but I only have 1 MVP. Waving the mouse pointer over them makes them go.

Upgraded to v1.1.5 (went smoothly which was good, and yes i did backup the config and db3, probs would have broke if i didnt).

anyway, no changes to the config.xml file, installed MVP Tray Icon v1.0.6 in a folder called "MVPTRAYICON" in the plugin directory, works first off no problems, have one MVP working and the other offline.

I thought there was going to be a switch in the config file? or is there one and its set to "true" already?

I do have a question though......... The MVP disconnected says "disconnected" however it doesnt pull its NAME from the config file doing this... i am sure it used to...

When you turn the MVP off (by green button on a remote to the MVP) the icon (which ever one this applies to) will go red then about a second later vanish then the icon re-appears again (as disconnected)... ideas, this tends to sometimes leave dead icons on the tray depending on how your tray is set up (mine is always on, doenst hide)??

Overall it does work Big Grin
Many Thanks
Ashley
