I guess I should have just tried it before I asked - this is excellent. My MVPs were idle last night when I installed it so I didn't see that part in action. From what was said in the post I thought you just meant the type of stream (i.e. MP3, MPG, etc) instead of what was actually being streamed.

Major Hostility Wrote:Sub is adding a couple of new event types in the next build that will let me show when it's connected to an MVP. Maybe he can include the IP information along with the connect event.

Ok, well then I can't help but ask for more while I have the chance. Smile If the IP address will be available, what would really be cool is if it could do a simple lookup and substitute a user-defined label for the IP. For instance, I use static DHCP at home so I know the IP for my daughter MVP is 192.168.1.25 and the one on my landing is x.24. If I could put a label for their IP in an INI file like this:

[IP Translate]
192.168.1.24=Landing
192.168.1.25=Ryann's Room
192.168.1.26=Morgan's Room

then the tooltip could show the label instead of the IP. Of course, if no INI file or the IP doesn't exist in it, just show the IP.

Forgive me for being greedy... even as it is, it's great!

This sounds like a good idea to me, so I'll see what I can do when the next release comes out with the new MVP events. I think we can add a set of MVP "labels" to the config.xml file without too much effort, especially if you're up to using a text editor Wink

If you saw my previous message before I edited it -- ignore it. Just a brain fart on my part.

Anyway, is there a way to make the taskbar icon look a little different from the recording service icon?

What a great idea and contribution! Thanks! I'll definitely be using it, as my 14-year-old is about to get one of my MVPs in her room, and I want to be able to at least somewhat monitor what she's watching. She doesn't need to watch everything I record.

Thanks again!
Chris

Pilot Wrote:Where am I supposed to be copying this and seeing this icon? I copied it to the plugins directory, restarted the recording service, turned on a MVP and started playing a recording, but nothing shows up in my taskbar. Do I need to put the app in it's own plugin folder or just directly in the plugin folder?
Sorry for the lack of installation notes! You should be able to just copy the "MVP Tray Icon.dll" file into the "plugins/" folder and then restart the MVP servers. I'm not sure if restarting the recording service will restart the MVP sessions too, so you might try starting the Config app and then just hitting OK.

Also, as pointed out to me in a separate thread, if you've disabled the "Allow service to interact with desktop" setting for the recording service the icon won't be visible in the system tray.

One other quick test you can try after loading the dll is to run the "GB-PVR MediaMVP Server" by hand which might help determine if the icon is being hidden by the service, or not working at all.

For the first pass at this I just used the existing tray icons. In the next version I want to add a third icon for "MVP not connected" so I'll try and come up with something a bit different than the recording icon.

I really have to try this! I have 3 MVP, only 2 currently hooked up. I think it would be even better if you could tie the label to the MAC address, the IP can/will change.

I can see it now,

"MVP#2 (Kids room) is watching channel 24 MTV"
3x MVPs (not used anymore)
XBMC
Hauppauge 150 via SVideo
Comcast Digital Cable
Motorola HD Cable box channel changed via Firewire
Vista Home Premium with RDP hack
AMD Athalon 64 5000+
340gig sata, plus 80SATA+3x160IDE Drives in XP machine for storage.

Sub pointed out that I can get the MAC address of the device once it's connected, so I'm working on an update right now that will allow you to define labels based on the MAC address.

I'll post an update once it's ready for testing. Smile

I thought MAC would be harder so I didn't ask for it, but it'd work just as well. Better for those that don't/can't do static dhcp assignment.

Thanks, Major. Because I'm constantly dinking with my GBPVR install, I have a group with several shortcuts, including GBPVR source files, the Program Files folder, etc., and I was having a brain fart putting it in the source file folder for Plugins rather than the actual Plugin folder under Program Files. Like I've said here before, I never figure out what stupid mistake I made until I post a message on the forum, and then it dawns on me! Rolleyes

This is a great plugin for a variety of reasons, but in addition to knowing what my kids are watching, I can also just keep track of what's connected and when. My GBPVR system is also my main home desktop PC, so I don't want to be rebooting or putting the system in standby if someone in the house is connected to it via a MVP. This will eliminate the usual, "YO?! ANYONE CONNECTED TO GBPVR?!" Big Grin

I have posted an updated version of the plugin here:

[indent]MVP_Tray_Icon.zip[/indent]

To install, just copy the extracted dll into the GB-PVR plugins folder and then restart the recording service.

This update includes a new icon that is a simple "MVP" modification of the current GB tray icon, as well as the ability to define "names" for each MVP.

I didn't have time to put together a nice UI for editing MVP names, so you'll need to edit the config.xml file manually. You will need to have a valid <MAC-####> block set up for each MVP with a new "MVPName" entry like this:

Code:
<MAC-000DFE003591>
    <MVPName>Upstairs</MVPName>
    <MVPWidth>636</MVPWidth>
    <MVPHeight>424</MVPHeight>
    <MVPOffsetX>28</MVPOffsetX>
    <MVPOffsetY>24</MVPOffsetY>
</MAC-000DFE003591>
