one more thing i just thought of. the same parameter that makes colour controls stick may do the same for the encoder settings. in fact, its name seems appropriate. do you have this set in your registry?

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\hcwPP2\DriverData\

"HcwSaveEncoderSettings"=dword:00000001

I looked at it, and thanks for suggesting. It could be a fix, but I don't know if this is a $20 problem (to reg). I was also a little nervous because they had spacial/temp "defaults" that didn't look like what I had. I was kind of nervous to mess w/ settings that are fine 90% of the time.

I'll leave that as a possiblity, if it really starts getting to me. Besides, I think it only strengthens the point there must be a way to make these changes and have them stick.

capone, you are right that after a reboot those threshold settings go back to default. the other parameters remained. they must only be stored in memory somewhere.

it seems to me that using GBPVR did not reset these settings though. i will confirm this.

This may sound crazy (and it may well be), but the tinkering seems to have some unintended impact.

I did a bunch of combos of open this, set that close this, set that, reboot, et al, and it always returned to default. But that night, and this morning (during shows that wash out significantly), the shadows I was trying to add were improved. Again, this may be my wishful thinking, but the washing out was very distinct and hard to miss on my morning new progream, and it was obvoiusly improved.

I think or wonder if all the settings either stuck incrementially, and became the default of 0 (or slider all the way left on high), or it dislodged some old color default that was fouling things.

While I could prove w/ a screenshot, it would be moot, as I couldn't tell you want happened or worked. It's more an interesting outcome, or maybe some evidence that these settings can be changed and become the new default.

All that said, it would be nice still to have actual control over this (not a note to sub in particular, just a general wish of the 150 card).
