I have a xp machine with gbpvr that gets restarted once a month due to xp updates and thats it. So either you have an hardware issue in which case it doesn't matter what OS you use, or there are driver/software issues with your set up.

I think it comes down to guys like Windows, like they like their cars. They can open the hood and tinker. A Mac is like a car with its hood welded shut. Yeah you can tinker with the engine, but you have to crawl underneath and fiddle through the under carriage. Not to say Macs are bad. They're stable because you can't (or at least it's difficult to), tweak....

A stock, (mildly tweaked) updated XP SP2 is very, very stable. If one requires the need to tweak, they should get a different 'tweaking' computer... I know, I know,... the money....

Well I consider my sanity to have a price tag on it. That's why I don't spend too much time troubleshooting (I have some experience anyway, and can usually nail the problem quickly) But when I do come across a damn peculiar problem, I usually just cut to the chase and reinstall...

But that said, I have no AV, Spyware, email or surfing, or any other workstation type stuff on my main PVR box. And its been fine since I learned this wicked PVR app, about a year ago...

Anyone think it's a waste to have a box sit in the corner and just PVR, should think about their VCR, that only recorded and played back too...

But I digress. What types of issues are you having?

I used to ask 'why?' Now I just reinstall...
