The more problems and limitations I've see for nvidia cards makes me think they're pretty crap for home theatre usage.

There are quite a few ex-ati card users including myself that have a very different opinion !

Yes, I know neither manufacturer's cards are perfect, and everyone has a different opinion on the matter - but it seems to me that more of the fundamental things are broken with the nvidia products...particularly from my perspective as a developer.

Sub,

Can we expect a full screen exclusive renderer mode for GBPVR or should all us nvidia users be budgeting to buy an ATI card ?

I probably will add it, but I can say for sure if it'll make it in for the next release or not though. I've spent about half a day looking at it, and unfortunately its not going to be very easy to retrofit. It also has some limitations which I'm sure are going to bug some users.

nvidia should fix this so that full screen exclusive mode is not required.

I wouldnt say 'all nvidia users' - this doesnt affect everyone. Most people doing standard definition stuff are fine. It mainly affects those doing HDTV stuff, or to a lesser degree, those with slower machines.

Was wondering if you see the tearing issue with 1080i material on your 7600GT. I'm assuming your another australian user because you seem to have completely renura based kit in your signature !

Edit: Problem also present in 97.13 using vmr9 custom renderer

LOL - yeah, customer loyalty for dntv! is pretty big seeing he was one of the first sellers of cards in Australia for the 'Geek' market Big Grin Alot of Aussies on these sorts of forums from what I can gather - or maybe we are just loud.

I have bought a 32" LCD tv recently and haven't been able to tell whether it is the FPS fault of the Dell monitor I had been using or something else.

I always thought it was my monitor - but coming to think of it - whenever I wanted to watch HD I use the dntvlive software because it was smoother than gbpvr - so when you created this thread it all made sense (I think!)

I, probably like you, have tried alot of things - one which may help is activating the LCD overdrive feature of the purevideo decoder in the registry. It is supposed to guesstimate the colour blending of moving images and hence helps with LCD tearing.

I don't want to comment to much more on what I'm observing though as I'm still running ver.96 of gbpvr.

I'm glad you've spent time trying to fix these issues with Nvidia cards as I have tried many combos and the Purevideo+7600GT is the ducks nuts for a wide range of low to high end systems I've tried.

Sub,

Sounds like the full screen exclusive renderer is going to be a big ask. What about adding an option to keep the osd's contained within the video window so the standard vmr9 renderer can be used ? Wouldn't this avoid the aspect ratio video corruption and the custom renderer tearing problems.

You mentioned this may be an option here: URL="http://forums.gbpvr.com/showpost.php?p=113108&postcount=38"]http://forums.gbpvr.com/showpost.php?p=113108&postcount=38[/URL]

Let me know if I can assist with anything.

Darren

I disagree. I am the only user of my pc and it by having it able to run on a second monitor it serves multiple purposes at the same time (HTPC, workstation, etc.). Why not utilize the money I put into a my multiprocessor system as much as possible by running the HTPC app when I am not on it or when it is in the background?

Even that would be a hassle to implement, especially given the shitty job its going to do with the OSD. Sometimes OSD will in the middle of the screen. Sometimes big chunks of the OSD would be off the edge of the screen.

You could try setting <VMRPreferYUVMixing>true</VMRPreferYUVMixing> in config.xml, and setting the renderer back to VMR9. You'll get no OSD, but the aspect ratio should work correctly without showing this nvidia bug.

Do you have any clips which make it easy to see this problem? I've downloaded a few clips from the net, but havnt been able to reproduce the problem on my 6200 yet. I've got a pretty powerful dual core 4400+ machine - I wonder if that is playing any part in why I'm not seeing the problem.

I agree with you when you say multipurpose pc - I said dedicated htpc Wink

Alot of people get into a htpc project because their old system is going to be landfill. A new case and video card is usually all it takes to make a fairly low end system into a dedicated htpc, with the addition of good software and heaps of tinkering time .....

I'll shut up now cos' this has nothing to do with the topic at hand. One for Daza67 - did you try the LCD overdrive feature yet?
