I have one, but its the only wireless device I own - so nothing wireless to test it with (it still makes a good wired device though). I'm one of the tinfoil hat people that prefers not to run wireless stuff at home.

I would prefer not to run wireless, but unfortunately I am not in a position to run wires through all of the walls where I live Sad Plus having wireless for my work laptop is great. I was thinking of getting one of the wireless MVP's for the bedroom, but then I would probably be in even more trouble with the wife for spending too much time in the bedroom watching TV hehe. Thankfully the wife loves GBPVR as well, or I would be in BIG trouble.

I opened TCP 7967 and re-enabled the firewall and everything worked fine for probably 20 minutes of testing. I edited the config.xml to try that 65536 cache setting and then GBPVR wouldn't start anymore, just crash at desktop, save for when restarting recording service. The log files were empty. Sooo after another clean install of the client back up and running, sort of. I set the cache to 64k and it plays really good. But occasionally it'll just go to the main menu. Playing Recordings works using TCP 7967 but now Live TV wants to use 7968... which isn't open on the firewall so I get the recording service error disabling the firewall lets me watch Live TV. Is there a way to just allow the application rather than keep specifying ports it wants to use? Adding gbpvr.exe and gbpvrrecordingservice.exe doesn't work. Thanks.

Sounds like you cocked something up in the file, or edited it with one of the problem editors like Wordpad.

It depends what firewall software you're using.

The app has always used port 7968. This is what the app uses for communicating with the recording services. 7967 is a new port used for streaming media.

I'm sure you'll eventually get it all working...just a bit more tinkering.

That's what I had thought, but I undid all my changes and it was still hosed... i had made a backup of the config.xml file too, restoring that had no effect so I guess whatever I 'did' to the config.xml messed up something else too.

Just using Window's built-in firewall.

I hope so. My wife is VERY excited about this new feature.

With 11meg the best you get is somewhere around 40% efficiency with MAC overhead phy overhead for DCS. So I wouldn't expect to get much higher than 5meg or so delivered. The interruptions for access point searches is a big problem as well for video delivery.

with my old 11b, playing a video over the wireless was doable if lower bitrate was used. But with 54g, I have been playing pre-recorded video just fine for the last 6 months on the high quality bitrate. Setting the cache size to 64K fixed my stuttering issues with this client/server setup and I've only been bounced back to the main menu once while watching Live TV.

Sub,

i have been trying to get my laptop set up as a file sharing client with ver. 98.8b. i have noticed here that it was a virewall issue. i have went as far as turning off all firewalls with no luck. i have attached my logs from the client computer for you to look at if you have time. i would like to attach the log from the server but it gives no response. now this is just with live tv mode. i am able to watch recorded videos, schedule recordings,(with an error i will locate in the appropriate area), search other files. live tv is really my only major hangup at this time.

tx in advance for all that you do for us allBig Grin

It looks like you havent set the server name, so its still set to the default 'huchpc' server name (which is one of my machines), which results in it being unable to resolve the name of the server to connect to.

Thanks to the suggestion to share the gbpvr folder. Never would have thought that was the idea. I am getting an error about ad2mcmpgdec.dll and ad2mpegin.dll missing, so I'll try to resolve that by searching the forum, but I am getting a lot closer to having it running as a client. Cool feature Sub!

May I make a suggestion. Have selecting PC client mode offer the option to disable the starting of the recording service. From the name of it, I don't need it running on my client machine, right? Everytime I leave config, it starts it.
