Neither of the decoders work. Well thanks for all your help. If I get it to work, I will post here.

I did note the FILTER_TV_AUDIO misspelling above, sorry/

I looked quickly at lastgraph with graphedit. The lastgraph shows 'Angel USB Crossbar' connected to 'Capture', not "Angel USB MPEG Device' as expected. This should not make a difference though (both work.) What is not correct is that it seems also to ignore 'FILTER_ENCODER=Angel USB Encoder'. If in graphedit, I insert this filter, connect the 'in' pins to either 'Capture' or 'Angel USb MPEG Device', connect the 'MPEG Out' pin to the 'MPEG-2 Demultipler', it plays fine..

In the GBPVR.exe-native.log I see it does not attempt to load FILTER_ENCODER but does the others, then it replaces FILTER_CAPTURE as above. Then it states:

FindFilterByName failed to locate filter: Encoder pass-through.

I enclosed are the two graphs, any comments?

For it to use an encoder filter, the definition in direct.ini has to have 'BLACKBIRD=1'

That did it for me! Here is the updated direct.ini section, with the i2s/656 reversal confusion. I noticed graphedit still uses filters Capture & Encoder instead of Angel USB MPEG Device & Angel USB Encoder, whatever?

[Angel USB MPEG Device]
INIT_MODE=DEFAULT
INIT_MSP=0
SUPPORTS_FM_RADIO=0
BLACKBIRD=1
CONEXANT=0
FILTER_TV_TUNER=Angel USB TvTuner
FILTER_TV_AUDIO=Angel USB TvAudio
FILTER_CROSSBAR=Angel USB Crossbar
FILTER_CAPTURE=Angel USB MPEG Device
FILTER_ENCODER=Angel USB Encoder
PIN_TVTUNER_ANALOG_VIDEO_OUT=Analog Video
PIN_TVTUNER_ANALOG_AUDIO_OUT=Analog Audio
PIN_TVAUDIO_TV_AUDIO_IN=TVAudio In
PIN_TVAUDIO_TV_AUDIO_OUT=TVAudio out
PIN_CROSSBAR_VIDEO_TUNER_IN=Video Tuner In
PIN_CROSSBAR_AUDIO_TUNER_IN=Audio Tuner In
PIN_CROSSBAR_VIDEO_DECODER_OUT=Video Decoder Out
PIN_CROSSBAR_AUDIO_DECODER_OUT=Audio Decoder Out
PIN_CAPTURE_ANALOG_VIDEO_IN=Analog Video In
PIN_CAPTURE_ANALOG_AUDIO_IN=Analog Audio In
PIN_CAPTURE_PREVIEW_AUDIO_OUT=Virtual Video In
PIN_CAPTURE_I2S_OUT=Virtual Audio Out
PIN_CAPTURE_656_OUT=Virtual Video Out
PIN_ENCODER_I2S_IN=Virtual Video In
PIN_ENCODER_656_IN=Virtual Audio In
PIN_ENCODER_OUT=MPEG Out
PIN_WRITER_INPUT_IN=Input

Ok, thanks. I'll add it to the master file.

Thats normal, it can use any logical name it wants when you add it to the graph. Its convenient for me if I know the encoder filter is always called 'encoder' etc.
