Seems pretty clear to me.

OK I thought he was talking about something else! I'll go and find the patch to reverse the registry change, then try overlay and see if that cures the original problem, which was the picture tearing!

if you have a new version you can change that in the GUI

and just for fun, try changing the aspect ratio

figured I would mention it, "auto" always gives me no picture in livetv mode with the overlay renderer. I dunno.

Sorry to you mean "auto" in terms of auto aspect ratio changing, or an auto setting in purevideo?

My installation works the exact same way. "Auto" mode worked great back when I used VMR9 Custom, but shows nothing but a blank screen & audio now that I use Overlay.

F7 gets a workout on my system (I switch back and forth between 4:3 and 16:9 video quite often).

Yeah, as I said when I introduced the 'auto aspect ratio' - there is no support for the auto aspect ratio with Overlay, so I'm not surprised you get this sort of behaviour.

Can it be fixed, or is it something that's out of control?

I had to switch to Overlay mode as I had tearing using VMR9 Custom, and neither VMR9, nor VMR7 worked properly on my machine. And now I have to change aspect ratio manually all the time, which is a little bit annoying. :-\

Why ZoomPlayer and MediaPlayerClassic don't have such a problem - aspect ratio is detected properly and they don't have tearing? Do they use a different method of video rendering?

By the way, I had tearing in MediaPortal too, and it could be fixed there using "Exclusive access to DirectX" option whatever it meant. Is it possible to do something like this in GB-PVR?
Overlay mode seems like the last resort - people switch to it usually when they have issues with VMR9, and tearing is one of the most common problems. If it could be fixed, Overlay wouldn't be needed much, I believe.
