That's kind of a chicken or egg question since he got his idea from my source code, but it uses a similar idea.
Instead of opening the raw dvd device, the code in the patch opens dvdsimple://filename.iso
I did apply and chance the patch a bit and it does seem to work on a sample iso but it isn't available in any public dongle, because of lack of interest. If you can use the mvpmc / vlc telnet interface as explained on the mvpmc wiki and have some iso's to test, I'd be happy to put it in the next alpha for feedback.
Edit: What the heck, the change is so small and it doesn't hurt mvpmc so I decided to just update the alpha and it should be in the mvpmc nightly tomorrow.
