Well at least you can rule out dodgy signal quality and/ or a dodgy capture card.

I think Sub's suggestion is by far the best bet, I would also try the latest installation CD from Hauppauge and set up WinTV. It provides a good "out of the box" baseline. If you can get a good picture quality in WinTV, then I think the combination of GBPVR.exe and the overlay renderer really should work.

Good luck.

Sub & Hairy - that worked! I ran GBPVR with overlay and it works great! Thanks!

If you have the time, I have two other issues that I'm stumped over...

1. I can record manually just fine, but if I set GBPVR to record a "season" (all episodes of a particular show on a given channel), it records...channel 47 at that timeslot. no matter what. I have the cable line going directly into the PC...do I need a channel changer? I don't have one set up with the PVR150...

2. Gamezone plugin shows up in PVRX2, but not GBPVR. I have it installed correctly and set up and configured right, and it works beautifully in PVRX2, but not GBPVR...documentation says it should work for all versions and I have the most recent version of GBPVR installed (as of december)

I really appreciate your help! You have been amazingly nice to me, thank you!

Are you using an external set top box (digital cable box etc), or the onboard tuner (directly tuning channles from PVR150)?

Onboard tuner. As such, I do not have a channel changer set up for the PVR150 source...do I need to?

Ps. btw, I copied the Gamezone.dll file in the root plugins directory, and in the main GBPVR directory, and now gamezone shows up and works just fine - so the gamezone plugin issue is solved

No, you wont need a channel changer in this setup.

Do a recording the problem then zip and attach your GBPVRRecordingService.exe.log & GBPVRRecordingService.exe-native.log files. I'll take a look.

Sub, thanks for your help.

Link to my log files: (there were several of each, I included all of them)

It has come to my attention that I can't even change channels in GB PVR at all while watching live TV.

THanks again for your willingness to help me out.

In that example, you were trying to watch channel 171, which is definitely not an analog channel accessible from your tuner. Analog cable channels have a maximum range of 1 - 125, though some cable operators may have significantly less analog channels.

So...either you've got the wrong channel numbers next to your channels in your capture source channel list (ie, channel 171 is really supposed have some much lower number) or you're trying to watch channel 171 which is really a digital cable channel and not accessible from from your PVR150 tuner (unless you hook up to your set top box and use an IR Blaster to control the set top box).

Oh, okay. That definitely makes sense. I think I have the EPG configured incorrectly. I'm using the YAPI thing from yahoo. I'll try re-establishing the recording source and such and see how that works. Still learning the ins, outs, and wherefores of television! Thanks again, Sub.

To anyone who cares to help -

All was well. I began to notice small glitches which I would fix as they arose. Something seemed amiss. I reinstalled my virus software (which was removed in a bout of insanity), and sure enough, had the parite worm. I couldn't get rid of it (it infected EVERY .exe on my system). There was only one choice - full reinstall.

So I did.

Now, I went through a lot of trial and error to get GBPVR to work the first time around (see this thread). I'm not so noob-ish now. I installed windows fully up to SP2 and .net 3.0 and all that good stuff. Got the most recent BIOS drivers from dell (it's an older machine), the latest Audigy 2 and Geforce4 drivers, etc. I re-downloaded the NVIDIA purevideo codec, installed it. Downloaded the latest Hauppauge PVR-150MCE drivers, installed them. Installed Yapi2xml and GBPVR. Configured everything in config.exe as best as I could remember (including setting the recording bitrates for liveTV really high again), which was pretty well. Channels work fine. I have overlay selected - that was the problem last time - and streaming video through GBPVR looks terrible. Again. All grainy like youtube, with overlay selected this time. Sad Sad

Interesting:

Previously, the Hauppauge drivers installed a program called Primary.exe that allowed me to select Overlay as an option. This program is in the .zip file I downloaded from hauppauge, but it has NOT been installed on my system. I do not know why this is, or if it would even affect my setup. I have overlay selected in config and in the NVIDIA codec config. There are two sets of drivers: One for the plain PVR-150, and one for "Media Center", which I can only assume means PVR-150MCE. This latter version is the one I had installed previously when my setup worked, and it's also what I have installed now.

Incoming cable from the PVR-150MCE plays fine in VLC.

Recordings I made via GBPVR from before the huge disaster play fine in VLC. 100% perfect.

Not sure if this matters: I have the PC going to the PC-in port in the back of my samsung 32 inch LCD HDTV. For some reason, I had to set it to 75 hz refresh, because 60 made it visible glitchy and such. I tried GBPVR on both settings, with no real difference in quality of the image.

Sub/Hairy, I appreciate all the help you've given me so far. I really don't mean to be a nuisance. I've just not had great luck recently with this stuff Sad

Thanks to any/all in advance, as usual! As soon as Friday rolls around and I get paid, I'm making a donation. You guys have gone above and beyond, and I am thankful (no matter what the outcome of my latest catastrophe).

I have attached my log files. Thanks again!

For me it would be back to a process of of elimination.

Do new recordings look ropey in GBPVR? Try them in VLC, if they look okay that would suggest that your card is capturing fine and the fault probably lies with the decoder/output stage. As always I recommend getting a good picture with the default hauppage software. From my limited experience if it looks okay there, then nine times out of ten it'll look grand in GBPVR.

Good luck.
