I have had great success with hip and MCE Blaster,

in the config.exe where you set up hip I add a delay value and that solved any erratic channel changes.

example

{channel} 1600

1600 works best for me and I record everything.

another tip I have discovered on my rig is that hip would corrupt my remote files. Sounds crazy I know but the files were different and saved remote files would stop changing a channel because they became different after a while so my fix was to write protect the files in the folder after creating them (right click "select "read only" " click ok.
C:\Program Files\HIP\MCEIR\

This stopped the corrupt file problem.

You may also need to edit your remote files if you get numerous number requests with each command.

use a bin editor and remove the phony data.
"example bad hip MCIER learnt code."

Well, I tried IR server and it has worked way better than HIP.

The setup was easier and I didn't have to mess with channel changing timings. It works every time.

For those people that can't get HIP working right I would highly recommend IR server.

Based on your suggestion and others, I'm trying to get IR Server Suite working with GBPVR but having some issues. I've been working with the author of IR Server Suite Aaron over at MediaPortal, and as of this morning he still hasn't given up researching my problem, but he suggested that I pose my problem to you experts of GBPVR over here at GBPVR forum as he is not familar with GBPVR app.

Here goes, I followed Zaprat's instructions how to use IR server suite with GBPVR here at GB-PVR Forums to the letter and everything seemed to be going well until I started GBPVR and the task manager went to 99% usage and stayed there until I stopped IR Server's input Service process, it then went back to normal. Before I killed the process I tried to change channels, IR Server did change the channel even though it took forever for the CPU to get around to acting on the request.

I tried to narrow the trouble down a bit more by doing the following:

1. I open Input Service Config. app. remove checks on both xmt and rcv for USB-UIRT plugin (I don't use MCE remote). close Input Service app. and allow it to reset. This can sometimes take several seconds.

2. Open the GBPVR app. At this point normal CPU usage.

3. While GBPVR is open, open Input Service Config. app. check both xmt and rcv for USB-UIRT plugin. close Input Service app. and allow it to reset. Again, this can sometimes take several seconds and at times immediate.

After this is complete, CPU usage is normal and changing the channel on my STB via GBPVR works as it should with IR Suite. The signals sent to the STB are quite fast but accurate everytime, this is great and considerabily faster than HIP when HIP does work.

The bad part about all this is when I either manually put the system into S3 power state (standby) or it's automatic, when resuming I have to go through the steps above to get GBPVR back to normal CPU usage using IR Suite. This also happens with either a re-boot or cold start.

To add just a bit more to this, I can leave the GBPVR app. open and put the system in S3 standby, upon resuming, IR Server and GBPVR both work as they should and CPU usage is normal.

Any Ideas? I sure it's something that's somewhat unique to my setup because there are too many folks put there that have IR Suite functioning with GBPVR without the issues I have. Now that I've had a taste of IR Suite, I'd like to make it work. I'm willingto try any and all suggested fixes, other than dump the whole thing and go back to MS MCE.

Which process has the high CPU usage? PVRX2.exe, GBPVR.exe or one of the IR server suite executables?

If its PVRX2.exe or GBPVR.exe, then reproduce the problem and post the respective logs and I'll take a look.

What is your command string in the gbpvr config, capture sources, channel changer?

If you select none for channel changer, can you restart the computer without having the cpu problem?

First, thank you for the quick response! I used to go to Calgary at least once a year before I retired from my company to meet with what used to be Novatel, now NT. Great City, freindly people and beautiful country.

The command string used for channel changer is .exe changer and in the .exe channel changer config. window is Executable = C:\Program Files\IR Server Suite\IR Blast\IRBlast.exe, Parameters = -host localhost -channel {channel}.

If I leave everything as is, Input Service config. translator etc. and just change the channel changer field to "no channel changer required" and open GBPVR, yes it still does use 100% CPU. The only way I can stop this from happening is to close GBPVR (when I close GBPVR at this point I get one of those "GBPVR caused a error do you want to send to MS"), remove the check marks in Input Service Config. and allow it to restart then reopen GBPVR. Then CPU is normal but of course, I can't change a channel.

Thank you for the quick response SUB,

Depending on which one I open PVRX2.exe or GBPVR.exe, either uses 100% CPU. The Task Manager shows which ever one I open is the process that misuses the CPU.

If you set the remote type back to 'default' or 'MCE' in the config app does the high CPU usage problem go away?
