c128 Wrote:Didn't work for me, I'm afraid. The utility lists programmes installed by the Windows Installer - after a (dodgy) install with the 1721 Error, GB-PVR is listed there. If you uninstall it, it isn't though, suggesting that the uninstall has done it's job. If you run the clean-up utility on it without an uninstall, then you can't uninstall it (unsurprisingly).

Anyway...I tried installs and uninstalls of 1.2.9 and 1.1.5. In both cases, after uninstall, the clean-up utility doesn't mention them, but I used it on each of them when they were installed and then re-installed them. Everything installs fine with 1.1.5, but not with 1.2.9, where the 1721 Error pops up. I also tried uninstalling the VC5 runtime deliverable, but no change.

Have you tried stopping service, killing all msiexec and pvrx2.exe in memory , uninstalling, restarting computer, and reinstalling?

I used to ask 'why?' Now I just reinstall...

Yep.

I've attempted a full install of 1.2.9 from clean - so that's after an uninstall of 1.1.5 and following a reboot, so nothing running in memory and no recording service even installed. From a GB-PVR perspective, the machine is clean (or appears to be clean) in terms of installation and running programs at the point I try the 1.2.9 installation and get the error.

Have you tried re-installing the Microsoft Windows Installer itself? I found this information from Symantec and it's Norton products (I got directed to that page from this link):

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Download the WindowsInstaller-KB893803-v2-x86.exe file from the document Windows Installer 3.1 Redistributable

2. Save the file to the Windows desktop. Do not double-click it at this time.

3. Click Start > Run.

4. In the Run line, type the following:
Code:
command

5. Click OK.

6. At the command prompt, type the following, and then press Enter after each line:
Code:
cd \windows\system32
    ren msi.dll msi.old
    ren msihnd.dll msihnd.old
    ren msiexec.exe msiexec.old
    exit

7. Restart the computer.

8. On the desktop, double-click WindowsInstaller-KB893803-v2-x86.exe.

9. Follow the prompts to complete the installation.

10.Restart the computer.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Hope this works for you...

Those look to be the instructions for XP, but if you pick-up the Vista instructions from the same place they involve a unregistration/registration of msiexec which, unfortunately, doesn't make any difference either Sad.

However, Googling "error 1721" and "vista" does throw up this - a brief skim read suggests some issue with MSVC-based installers on Vista that try to sub-launch something else, although it's possibly unrelated.

Success! Seems to be a privileges thing for the sub-launch of the configuration dialogue at the end of the install.

There's possibly a nicer way of working around this, but if you launch a command prompt as Administrator (right-click on the "Command Prompt" Start menu entry and "Runa as adminstrator") then navigate to the .msi file and run it from the prompt, it'll install without issue.

Still having divide by zero errors as below and TV Guide still hanging.

2008-03-11 04:59:48.191 ERROR [1] Unexpected error: System.DivideByZeroException: Attempted to divide by zero.

Only changes I made were I introduced some channel logos so I removed these to see if this caused issue but with no success.

Think I may now be in exactly the same situation as gjl-light.

In summary - I've had some problems with the installation of 1.2.9 on Vista 32 Ultimate, as listed in this thread, and then some issues with DVB-S scanning, as outlined (and sorted) here. So - basically I'm installing the 1.2.9 .msi via a DOS prompt with administrative privileges, then patching it with this, and I'm running "re-registerfilters.bat" post-install.

However...now that I'm up and running with a fully scanned DVB-S channel list from my chosen satellites, Live TV doesn't respond and when starting up the TV Guide it hangs. The Guide itself is also unpopulated, despite there being scanned and mapped channels, and it looks odd in that there seem to be placeholder strings in the bottom right and bottom left of the screen showing "@showTitleSubtitle", "@showDescription" and "@duration" (can't seem to get a screen shot of this, sorry). If I then click on the empty guide screen I get a "PVRX2 is not responding" dialogue and have to close GB-PVR.

I've attached my full logs but,as with gjl-light, my PVRX2.exe.log entries seem to have the same thing repeated:

Code:
2008-03-11 07:39:33.717    VERBOSE    [1]    TVGuide.GetRenderList()
2008-03-11 07:39:33.717    VERBOSE    [1]    tv guide render took@1: 0
2008-03-11 07:39:33.717    VERBOSE    [1]    tv guide render took@2: 0
2008-03-11 07:39:33.718    VERBOSE    [1]    tv guide render took@3: 0
2008-03-11 07:39:33.819    ERROR    [1]    Unexpected error: System.DivideByZeroException: Attempted to divide by zero.
   at GBPVRX2.xb654004a5183e7df.GetRenderList()
   at GBPVRX2.MenuTask.x9006c1ed9ccb79de.GetRenderList()
   at GBPVRX2.x0061b801bdf12d35.xdb012c437aec4a40(Boolean xd23bf32f3b17e3be)
   at GBPVRX2.xb979ad394703258e.xfb409e85bd292293(String[] xf18a926310372520)

I'm wondering whether we both just seeing some further symptoms of the initial installation issues?

For completeness, I've tried a complete clean-up and an install of 1.2.9 from fresh (with the tweaks mentioned in the previous posting to get things working).

Still the same result... Live TV doesn't work and the EPG hangs on access with the above errors.

It does leave me wondering whether this is all installer related, and that the "workaround" of installing from a DOS prompt with administrator privileges isn't really a workaround at all.

For the record: I'm using a (recent clean) install of Vista Ultimate 32-bit, with the majority of the default options enabled (including UAC etc.). Although 1.1.5 installs and works fine on the same system, 1.2.9 has the issues shown in this thread.
