It is supported out of the box, but you do have to map the digital channels which takes some effort.

My card comes today so I'm wondering what I will need to do. I will install the hauppauge drivers, then install GB-PVR, then do this: http://forums.gbpvr.com/showpost.php?p=2...stcount=38

I guess thats all you do?

After you have the card installed, you'll need to configure two capture sources in GBPVR.
  • First define the Analog capture source. This is the one that is connected to your cable box. Setup for this source is very similar to setting up a PVR150.
  • Now define your QAM capture source. This would be the direct cable connection.
    • Make sure you identify it as a "BDA Recording Plugin" as recording source,
    • Then Hauppauge HVR-1600 (QAM) as device type.
    • You will then have to click the "Map Digital Channels" and allow the tuner to locate QAM channels.
    • Once channels are detected, you will have to assign the valid frequencies to the appropriate channel (this is the time-consuming part). You'll have to watch the view window, and attempt to determine what channel that should be mapped to.
This link has a fair amount of information about mapping the HVR-1600.

QAM is not THAT hard to achieve. However, the cable co's always keep moving them around and playing with them (see this post http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=34425). It's ok if you frequently check up on them. I make it a point to rescan every 1.5 months or so on QAM just to check to see if anything moved.

Thanks for the info. I got the card installed. had to use the beta 64bit drivers, I am on 4gb of ram but I have the PCI mmo settting enabled in my bios so I figured I wouldnt need the beta drivers. I tried the regular drivers but the driver installer did not detect any device so I then tried the 64bit betas and they worked.

Anyway, I used the WinTV program to scan for analog channels, all my normal analog channels show up, about 70 or so. I then scanned for clear QAM source and a lot of channels show up in the list. The names are like "qam-576". Theres a lot of them, like maybe a hundred or more. scrolling through the list is so laggy i can't really tell. but what do I do now? do I need to click the tune button, or "locked" check box?

I found the qam channels in WinTV but it doesnt look like any are in HD, they just look like regular channels. I'm trying to get GB-PVR to pick up any kind of channel but it doesn't give me the option of choosing "Direct Recording Plugin". I can only choose analog recording plugin, analog highdef recording plugin, and digital recording plugin. I tried all three and downloaded that XMLTV plugin, updated the EPG and hit ok. I click on live TV in GB-PVR and nothing happens.
I'm thinking of returning the card on monday.

The digital side of the card should be bda recording plugin. The analogue side should be direct recording plugin.

I don't have the option of choosing BDA recording plugin, I just have the three I mentioned above.

But this card seems really flaky. I was using WinTV to watch earlier today, closed the program, and then came back a few hours later and the card stopped working. Like its just black. I also tried nero tv application and that wont work either. Device manager still shows my card working but it takes a restart to fix the problem and then it happens again a few hours later. The card shouldn't be overheating, I have a good cooling case. 3 fans in the rear, 3 fans up front, 1 on the side.

They were renamed in the most recent release to make more sense to people unfamiliar with GB-PVR:

Direct Recording Plugin is now called the 'Analog Recording Plugin', and is used for analog cards.

BDA Recording Plugin is now called the 'Digital Recording Plugin', and is used for digital cards (DVB/ATSC/QAM etc).

The third plugin is 'Analog HighDef Recording Plugin' is a new plugin for handling high definition component video capture devices like the Hauppauge HD-PVR.

So once I choose what I need and set up the capture devices and click ok, what do I do after that?
