I haven't tried HIP yet. I am kind of on a limited budget right now, so I don't think that buying another control is an option. I will definitely look into HIP.

I took a look under the hood of the IR receiver and it looks REALLY simple. I don't know how it automatically installed all those "HID Mouse" and "HID Keyboard" drivers. I tried the HIP program, but did not find any driver or plugin that would work for me.

If there is any kind of model number, or a link to a picture of the remote, that could help. I'm using a "fake" MCE remote with HIP, but it looks like an MCE remote.
I bet Michael Bay uses GBPVR because it's awesome:

The RMPC5 on that page looks fairly similar to the remote that came with my tuner card. I had basic funtionality out of it without HIP. I can only say what I did. I don't remember it exactly, so if you want to go this route it will probably take some searching and still may not work:
I'm using XP MCE and had to manually install the drivers to enable the Windows Human Interactive Device or something like that. It wasn't turned on by default for some reason, nor were the driver files in the proper Windows folder. I had to get that working for XP to use the remote at all. There were three files I had to search in Windows for and then copied them to the right folder. The up, down, left, right buttons worked with GBPVR. I went into one of the GBPVR folders that has a tool to show what GBPVR sees when you press a remote key. GBPVR won't see all the keys. What keys it did see I then opened up the GBPVR remote control file and manually changed that key to what I wanted to use. Let's say I pressed the menu key and GBPVR saw it as let's say the mini-guide function. Since the miniguide isn't a necessity but a backspace function is, I could change that line in the GBPVR remote file to have it see the menu key as backspace. For basic functionality, you really only need up, down, left, right, and backspace to get around in GBPVR. And then if GBPVR can see any other keys on your remote, you can change those the same way. With a mouse thing on there, that probably complicates things even more.
