Yes, its sounds like the video decoder is the problem.

That seems to have done the trick. I installed the codec and am able to get video now.

That's what a PVR is all about You can setup either a manual recording (like you would on a VCR with set timings), or once you have an EPG set up you can go to the TV Guide and set up recordings for your favorite shows, season record, etc.. All sorts of options are available.

How about just scheduling features without having to get an EPG. For instance, is there a scheduler (used by GBPVR) that I can set to record channel 5 (or whatever) from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM every weekday (or whenever)?

You can do this from the 'Manual Rec' button in the Recordings screen.

Having a real EPG is a worlds better experience though...

Thanks for pointing out the "Manual Rec" button. I had been playing around with this feature before, but could not get it to do too much. After reading your post I figured there must be more to it, so trying it again I discovered that it's all done by the keypad and not the mouse (I was using the mouse before).

The EPG does sound like a nice way to go, but in this case we are setting up a computer system to run the TV programming in a local jail. The inmates used to have straight cable access and could watch anything they wanted, which, as you can imagine, is not the best thing. So, we are setting it up with better, more positive programming. However, they do need to get the news each day, which we hope to grab via a TV caputre card in the computer, record it to disk, and play it back later, at a set time each day. We have scheduling software that will play all the movies, messages, and other recorded content, as well as the pre-recorded news. But we also need a very simple scheduler that will work with the TV capture card and GBPVR to record the news. Hopefully, the "Manual Record" feature in GBPVR will do that. I don't know how it will work with recording the news on Saturdays and Sundays, however, since these broadcasts may be at different times and the "Manual Recording" feature seems to group them together as one choice.

Are there any other scheduling options; maybe a plug-in, for instance, that will work with GBPVR, in case "Manual Record" will not do the job? I am also trying to avoid the EPG fees that I noticed on Schedules Direct.

I think you'll find this is a bit outside allowed uses of GB-PVR. The EULA states it is only for personal use. You'll need to find another application for your needs.

Thank you for mentioning that. I was not aware. I did not find any allowance in the eula for non-profits, either, so I guess I have to keep looking. Maybe I can find an OpenSource PVR.

Anyway, sorry to take so much time. I do appreciate your efforts and quick responses.

the pvr-150 is one of the most popular cards here so you should be able to get it working ok.

Got a new machine for the PVR:ing, and kinda' have the same problem as the OP. How does the new NPVR translate? I don't see anywhere I can add the EPG data from xmltv.

Before I used WinTV to scan for the channels but the one I have on CD is for Win98/WfWg... and the updater on the web doesn't recognise this old version.

Am I totally screwed now?
