That's good news, but how are you going to tell mvpmc that the files aren't mp3? Also if you make this change you might as well pass .ogg too, since mvpmc supports vorbis audio.

Related to vorbis this is now going to be supported on the NMT and it already works from GBPVR but I think the files are being transcoded to the unused temp file.

I'm assuming its going to know that from the filename.

Ok, I'll add this aswell.

Neither would do it by default, you'll need to explicitly go in an edit the <MvpTranscodeFLAC> and <MvpTranscodeOOG> settings to allow it to pass through without being transcoded.

But how will emulation mode for the MVP know whether it is receiving a transcoded file or not?

Hmm, good point. I dunno. Maybe you can add a "--expect-native-flac" type parameter or something to tell mvpmc to expect flac files will not be transcoded? I dont want to change the protocol.

A command line option in itself is no problem but it doesn't help JonRoyle who can't get the mvpmc share working. If it wasn't for ID3v2 tag's and all their crap, I'd be able to use magic numbers at the beginning of ogg and FLAC files.

Yeah, he'd need to get the share working if he want to use that.

I have got FLAC playing fine on MVPMC using the -flac transcode in GBPVR (which won't be needed after the next release) and the --em-flac option in MVPMC. (I am convertng all of by WMA lossless to FLAC)

What would be nice is the ability to send startup parameters to MVPMC through GBPVR thus removing the need for the share. The latest GBPVR patch appears to be sending the "--startup emulate" could this be exposed as a config paramter in GBPVR ie so that I could use "--startup-emulate --em-flac".

What is the impact of having the --em-flac option permanently set in MVPMC? I couldn't see any in my set-up -everything else continued to work fine.

Thanks,

Jon

This wouldn't work because it would force users to change their config.xml. This can't be worth it since AFAIK you are the only one in the world that even uses the feature.

I am  perhaps I am not being clear as expecting everyone to change their confix.xml would be a nonsense

My thought was the ability to send startup parameters to MVPMC via GBPVR so that it would enable people to configure as appropriate and use any future options which you may develop. The standard confix.xml could be empty <MVPMCStartupParameters></MVPMCStartupParameters>
however people could edit the file if they want/need to send parameter in my case "<MVPMCStartupParameters>--startup-emulate --em-flac </MVPMCStartupParameters>"

I though you also used MVP to play FLAC files Smile so I am not alone...

Jon

Thanks for the ongoing responses
