Did you already try setting <LiveTVPrePlayDelay>6500</LiveTVPrePlayDelay> in the clients config.xml. The highest value allowed in the config.exe is 4000 but you can maually change it in the xml? I am using Vista on both the client and server and this was the solution I found to prevent getting kicked out of live tv after a few seconds when using file sharing. Before making the change above I also found that after starting live tv I could rewind quickly a few times. This would allow the file to grow large enough and would prevent me from getting kicked back to the menu.

i have just been experimenting a bit with this setting and it seems that setting to 6500 or even 8000 really makes the difference.
seems to work for me now too. changing channels still leads to drop-outs; but i can just stop and then select another channel via the guide. fine for me. thanks for the tip.

@sub: is there a reason why 4000 is the allowed max-value? could you allow a higher value in case that a machine is configured as a client?

I'll bump up the maximum for the next release.

client/server has been working quite good recently.
didn't use livetv but watching a single channel worked fine.

with 1.3.1.1 on both machines, i can no longer watch on the client - tv stops after some seconds again.

setting the timeoutvalue (ClientModeLiveTVPrePlayDelay) has no effect.
since i also installed a new version of ffdshow (k-lite megacodec) i'm not completely sure that new gbpvr-version is the reason...

setting <ClientModeLiveTVPrePlayDelay> has no effect
increasing setting <LiveTVPrePlayDelay> to a value >3000 helps.

can watch again.
