ryboto Wrote:Thanks for the reply. Is there a consensus on what the best codec/settings are for all around playback? DXVA is marvelous for most HD movies, and there appear to be things I can do to make others work just as well, but is there a codec that will offer perfect playback on a 2.1ghz X2?

I have a 2.1GHz CPU. It's been ok with HD h264 using FFDshow software decoding. Although I'm not sure it's been tested with 1080p. What codec for perfect playback? Well, I thought coreAVC was pretty much regarded as having slightly inferior image quality to others such as ffdshow.

You know that even the most low end of modern graphics card is good enough for DXVA h264, so doesnt need to be one with any noisy fan. nvidia ion platform has been tested for HD h264 playback and it works with DXVA in MPC HC.

My issue is that for some of the HD films I have, a high bitrate is just too much for software decoding, even at 2.5ghz. DXVA works, but for some of the videos I have it plays at a reduced framerate, almost like it's in slow motion. the links posted previously gave info on how to possibly "fix" those videos to work better with DXVA, so I guess I can give that a shot.
