Fascinating and logical, to quote Mr. Spock twice. However, I consistently get very different responses from Live Preview when I use different BDA muxes.

Sorry, but I dont believe you. I'm sure its just some coincidence. It doesnt use this setting or load the mux unless you're recording to disk.

If that doesnt help, I'd next look at disabling the 'ffdshow raw video filter'.

It looks like you might be right about the Audio renderer. A brief test seems to be fine in Live Preview. However, Timeshift is now truly messed up, with constant pausing and restarting every 2 or 3 seconds. It also still stops after 5 minutes. I will see if I can work out how to disable ffdshow.

Great.

With the patches from the survival guide installed, do you get this problem with the TS Mux?

Sorry for the delay. I am timeshifting with the TS mux now, and there doesn't seem to be a problem, even with the audio renderer set to System Default. I haven't specifically applied any patches, though. Should I?

I'm trying to find an MPEG multiplexer that works, so that I can more instantly transport documentaries to the school where I teach (without transcoding). So far, the ATI, Cyberlink and Intervideo muxers all seem to require the "Directsound" audio renderer rather than the default.

By the way, I'm 90% sure that I've figured out why timeshift is stopping after 5 minutes, as well as Graphrecorder losing its abillity to cancel recordings. As usual, it's my fault. I have a polling batch file that uses GBPVRcli to check for in-progress and pending recordings, and otherwise restarts the recording service. This is to help me manage my streaming stations. What I didn't realise is that GBPVRcli does not register a timeshifting station as an "inprogress" recording.

I can fix that bit!

I usually recommend that people supply all the patches from the survival guide, but if its working fine as is, then you might as well leave it alone.

Sub, do you know the name of the player window process, to help me monitor for this?

The video is shown in the PVRX2 window. There is no separate process.

Bad news. I am back to square one. I can't imagine what the difference is from two hours ago, but Live Preview is stuttering and spitting to a stop, just like before, even with the Audio Renderer set to System Default.

Actually, I'm not even at square one anymore. for awhile I could no longer record; all my requests to start a recording were simply ignored.

I set everything back to the way I had it when I started this adventure: DVR-MS Mux (which I hate), Directsound Audio Renderer, MPV Video decoder and AC3 Filter Audio decoder. Nope. Wouldn't record like it always has before. Never had this problem before. I then reset, and finally system-restored my way out of the problem.

Now I can record from every network but one (One HD and One Digital in Australia). I can timeshift this network, but when I try to record it, the recording does not appear in any folders.

After all that, I still can't use Live Preview. It worked for a few minutes, but I don't know why.
