I dont know what to tell you. From what I can see, it really looks like firewall software or antivirus or something similiar installed on your machine is getting in the way. Its hard for me to tell you the steps to correct it without knowing what that problem software is.

I'm still thinking you have the problem described in the thread I linked above. Something in your Vista installation has broken .net remoting. The error you're getting is the same exact error the people in that thread were getting (yes, if you have a firewall blocking it you'll get that error as well).

Try the client/server test sub posted there - I think it's in post #12. The code has nothing to do with GB-PVR, it just launches a server to wait for a command via .net remote, and then you launch a 'client' that sends a message to the server. If the test fails, it will prove the problem has nothing to do with gb-pvr, and is a problem on your machine - either a firewall of some form as sub has said, or a problem in your .net installation. On the down side, I don't think anyone found an exact solution in that thread; several people had to completely re-install vista and block windows updates. You could try posting in that thread and see if anyone watching it has any further info.

Hi,

I've tested the test utility, and the remoteclient.exe mentions it can't connect to the port 7968 as the target machine actively refused it.

The Firewall is turned off. What else can it be?

Thanks,

I have now noticed something.
The RemoteClient.exe is trying to connect to ::1:7968
(localhost in IPV6).
When I'm checking with netstat.exe -an I see a port opened on 0.0.0.0 : 7968.
Is 0.0.0.0 covering the ipv6 network too?
Maybe it's the problem?

Thanks,
Ido

YEY!
I fixed the problem.
Thank you guys!

Now I'll explain what was the problem, so you'll know in the future.

In Vista, in the hosts file, the localhost settings is directed to ::1 instead of 127.0.0.1
The service is not started on the ipv6 address, and therefore doesn't response to it.
All I needed to do, is change the hosts file to have 127.0.0.1 as reference to localhost, instead of the original settings.

Thank you very much for you assistance. It was found because of your help, and some of my understanding.

Thanks ! Smile
