Most messy "codec packs" are PowerDVD (all versions - 7.x, 8, 9). It will install tons of filters to your system and after regular uninstall lot of mess remein in registry: (screen after PDVD7.x uninstall) - only way to fix it is clean it manualy.

There is no reason to have PDVD instaled at all. Only if you want it to play BlueRay/HD DVD then PDVD7.x is recommended (no idea it GB-PVR have plugin to launch PDVD to play BLueRay/HD DVD). Lot of people have PDVD7.x licence becouse they got it with BluRay drive/HD camcorder. PDVD8 and 9 - there is no reason to use them in HTPC at all, new patches blocks h.264 decoder. It will only install lot of mess...

New SAF version have integrated GraphStudio in Tools section, *unlocked* SAF auto install proppage.dll on Vista/Win7 so it is really easy to detect wrong filter "in use" and locate problem this way.

Another story is Win7 - this OS need to be "unlocked" in registry to be able use different decoders then MS one - SAF currenty support "unlocking" of EN and DE version of Win7, but i just added FR and NO support too. No problem to add more, but i need similar screenshot.

Do you have problem with SAF? Then report! You can improve SAF too! If you tell "hey, it doesnot work" - this will fix nothing. First of all problem must be located. If your system if messed with different decoders i need to known witch filters are causing troubles - SAF is powerfull and can auto-disable such trouble-maker filters.

There is simply too many variables (OS, drivers, hardware, decoders, etc...) that can cause troubles - not easy to catch them all... I am doing my best - SAF is working simply great on my HTPC - rock stable, perfect playback, channel change <1s (i have analog only).

whurlston Wrote:I definitely wouldn't class SAF with something like K-Lite.
I agree. - I was thinking about K-Lite and had just looked up Vista Codec Pack when I wrote that I hate codec packs. SAF was designed for GBPVR. Unfortunately, AFAICT, it's not possible to design a one-size fits all pack.
There are just too many variables in different systems.
