fullscreeen issue, tearing ATI HD4200 HDMI

I know why you have 24hz now, its an integer of 120hz (new TV, Snooze is Jealous)! i.e. 5x24hz=120hz. I dont think 60hz setting is the right setting for you since it is not an even integer. i.e 60/24=2.5 <--- not even.

A 120Hz TV should accept a 60 hz signal just fine and will double the frames (60 * 2 = 120). Some can accept a 24Hz signal but not all. When watching 60hz (USA broadcasts) content, the PC's resolution should be set to 60hz or 59hz (if not available, force HDTV resolutions in CCC). The PC should be set to 24/23 hz when watching 24p content like BluRays.

I installed the latest CCC and drivers, and got my desktop to scale to fill the TV.
I've got that going for me........

The tearing is still an issue. I'm using the native Hauppage codec that came with the latest WinTV.
What other codec would you guys suggest for analog?

I get the best picture results with FFdshow. I make sure that under overlay options in the codec only the NV12 option (ATI video card) is checked off. and i also make sure the set interlace flage in output media is checked. This has been pretty good for me and helped with picture quality, as the deinterlacing is done by the video card.

Also in CCC make sure the deinterlace setting is set to vector adaptive. By default it is set to auto and you should get better results with it bing set to vecor adaptive all the time.

I havent seen tearing since this, well occationally i do but its not wide spread and has never been a problem, most of the material i watch is US broadcast HDTV some 1080i some 720P

I suggest you try the VMR9 Full Screen Exclusive renderer.

For video decoder, try downloading the AVIVO pack from ATI (http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_cataly...nxavivo-xp). That will make an ATI MPEG-2 Decoder available to GB-PVR.

The best thing I ever did for my GB-PVR box though was to put Windows 7 on it. I never really got satisfaction with XP.

goodfellows, the tearing is gone!
So far I have tried Johnson's post above and that worked. I will try ffmpeg and the other codec, I installed it all on a reboot.

Just so you know, if you run FSE, any external apps (Custom Plugins) will not appear because FSE takes over the whole screen. If you have a future need for custom apps, try EVR.

I tried EVR but got the error message that it was unsupported by my hardware. I 'll look into that.

install dot net 3.5 and it will be available on XP (no hardware acceleration though)

Thanks man. I am ready to pull the trigger on the final hardware purchases. I am looking at the Hauppauge HVR-2250, since it would bring me to a total of three tuners alongside my trusty old 250. I am torn between the white box card at around $100 USD, and the kit with the remote included at $130 USD
Will I ultimately be disappointed with the Hauppauge remote? I'm not familiar with the harmony remotes and not quite ready to toss down $120+ to find out. I do have the 34 button remote that came with the 250. The rest of my entire suite is Panasonic, and both the blu-ray and home theater remotes will turn on and tune the TV. Of course they'll never do anything for my GBPVR machine, but I figured more information was better.
What think you all on the question of remotes?
