I like this solution a lot!
(In theory anyway - my harddisk broke down  so I am reinstalling everything at the moment , but will test this later)

Would it be possible to log what has been watched in each MVP in a mvp.log file?

So that you can see what "the 14 - year old" have been looking at?
Using DELL P4 1.5GB RAM 250 GB HD + DLINK DNS313 netdisk 1,5TB, 2 pieces of Hauppauge PVR150 w/45-button remote, 1 Popcorn Hour 110. Win XP SP3. GB-PVR v1.4.7 Plugins: Xrecord

Anything is possible Wink but this seems like something that might be more of a mainline GB-PVR feature, like a "usage history".

GB-PVR will generate a unique log file for each MVP device, so you could always do a quick review by hand for now too.

Thats not a great place to put the information. It'll be blown away each time there is an upgrade. You're better off storing it somewhere inside the PluginSettings node of the config.xml

This isnt something I'm likely to add the core of GB-PVR. I'm all for personal privacy, even for the kids.

You're totally right, and I gave it quite some thought before going ahead with it where it is. My rationale is that the <MVPWidth> values, etc., also need to be preserved across upgrades, so either GB-PVR will get smarter about preserving these values during updates, or users will already be saving off that portion of config.xml.

I'd rather you move them. Everything outside of the pluginsettings node is out of bounds for plugin developers.

Fair enough, although it really does seem like something that belongs with the rest of the MVP specific data.

Thanks for this, Major! It just continues to get better and all in one day.

Sub, you must not have a teenager in the house(?) Cool With cell phones, instant messaging, internet-in-general ("required" for school), etc., it's an uphill battle to keep track of what they're doing (which is usually what they're not supposed to be doing). I wish every facet of their life had log that I could refer to...make my life a heckuva lot easier as a parent, that's for sure.

What were you watching on GBPVR? "Nothing."
What happened at school today? "Nothing."
Who was that on the phone? "Nobody."
What's your current IQ? "Nothing."

GBPVR system info intentionally left blank because I'm personally
insulted that you can't remember it from previous signatures.

I agree, especially since those friggin' MAC addresses are a pain to type in... I'd rather them be in one spot.

Of course, I totally see subs point in needing control of the core section of the XML file. Should sub need to change the MVP section of config.xml, he doesn't want to deal with complaints of a blown upgrade when the source of the problem is some unexpected data in a reserved section of the config file.

Even outside of this plugin, a label in the MVP section would be nice sub, if only so the multiple MVP users can have a descriptive name for each MVP and know which one's parameters they're changing. I guess I could use an XML comment for that though.

I'm happy to add a MVPName tag, but I dont want to become a general store for also sorts of other crap.
