well that was different; this time the channel scan started but whizzed through without finding anything. I opened a different piece of software just to check that the tuner is still working proplerly.

here are the new logs.

thanks again

A couple of possibilities:

1) its something screwy with the default audio decoder on your machine (CyberLink Audio Decoder). Unfortunately the preferred audio decoder setting isnt used in the preview window in the config channel mapping. You'd have to temporarily uninstall the Cyberlink software.

Quote:06:04:24.668 VERBOSE rendering pin: Audio
06:04:25.189 ERROR Unexpected error exception during render. Caught and continuing.

2) what version of the Intervideo video decoder are you using? It doesnt seem to like VMR9.

I'll try uninstalling the Cyberlink audio decoder when I get the chance a little later- though I suspect that would have been the default decoder when it worked before as well.

I have an old WinDVD- version 4 I think- installed at the moment; I can try replacing it with a later version if it might help. I did have the options set to overlay, but if the software needs VMR9 for something anyway, that could be a new problem, as I don't remember which version I had installed when it was working before (I have changed them around on numerous occasions trying to get the EPIA hardware acceleration working).

Thanks,

[quote]I did have the options set to overlay, but if the software needs VMR9 for something anyway, [quote]The preferred renderer option is ignored for the small preview window in the config channel mapping. It'll always prefer to use VMR9 if you're hardware will accept it.

Well, I don't know how you have the patience to work out other people's computer problems sub, as the answers to mine seem always to defy (my) logic. I was (almost) sure the audio decoder wouldn't be the problem, but the Intervideo filter might be, as it was the only thing I might have changed, but, of course, it is removing the Cyberlink audio filter that's done the trick!

Anyway, thanks a lot for your help; hopefully it should be reasonably plain sailing from here, despite my insistence on using the problematic XCard (but is there really another graphics card out there with as good a TV output?)

One other little, much less important question about that card though, if you have a moment; I had been trying to set up the External Recorder plugin to use a streaming source in GBPVR, and though I got it to record and then play back the stream successfully with the XCard, when trying to watch "live" in timeshift mode it wouldn't display the stream, just reporting that it couldn't read the file. Is there any reason why this shouldn't work with the XCard?

Thanks again for all your help,

Frazer

Yeah, it can be pretty frustrating.
