Ged,
SS and I are both using the chaintech av710, it's an inexpensive ~$20USD sound card that uses the envy24 chip and has this capability.

av710s are hard to find in the UK, had my stateside sister send one over. But there are other envy24 based cards around.

I've just updated my htpc with a core duo and a gigabyte ga-965p-ds3 mobo. This board has a realtek alc883 hd codec chip and appears to allow bit perfect playback of DTS audio files within wmp and zoomplayer using directsound output !

The wave and application volume controls must be set to 100% and any dsp plugins need to be disabled otherwise this does not work.

There seems to be a problem with DTS audio file playback in GBPVR via the music library. I suspect the internal volume level during music playback is not being set to 100%. There does not appear to be any volume control available during music playback in GBPVR. If I open lastgraph.grf file generated the DTS file plays fine in graphedit.

I've gotten DD/DTS/DVD and DTS-CD working on my system. I have a K9N Platinum mobo with Realtek alc883 audio chip. As stated previously, you need to set 44.1K/SPDIF audio in the Realtek tool, and have your volume at max in wmp.

The extra step for mine was that I have NVidia mobo drivers - while playing a DVD in wmp, I went into the Tools/Options/DVD menu and selected the Advanced button which brought up the NVidia audio controller. In that panel, I selected the Speaker Setup button at which point you get a dialog that allows you to select "Connected to \x\ a receiver \x\ via an SPDIF cable".

That done, everything works as I want it to - WMP and GBPVR both do the right thing through the same SPDIF cable.

That NVidia dialog is for the NVidia decoder, and can also be accessed via the task bar while a video is playing.

So in other words, you need to configure both the audio driver and the audio codec for S/PDIF playback.

This AV710 card truely rocks. Got it today and set it all up working in 1/2 hour.

And it all works perfectly with GBPVR & reclock. I use my music and my videos (zoomplayer) & I get full functionality with no stutter in live tv.

The trick with the live tv stutter is to set the prefered renderer in GBPVR to 'direct waveout'. Then make sure you have the 'use as prefered renderer' ticked for reclock. If you set it up this way reclock actually doesn't fireup with viewing television but works with everything else. Don't worry about waveout not passing through HDTV DD - I've tested it against Australias 9HD channel and 5.1 DD works.

Setting up reclock was as simple as pointing everything at the ENVY24HT-S and to use kernel streaming for all processes.

Big Grin

one last thing; I've used the 3.10a drivers and read this helpful guide to set up the exploit in the Envy24HT-S driver's Control Panel

and thanks to daza67 for inspiring me to spend $50 & get my htpc to actually sound good - for all you with lossless audio files and bit perfect passthrough to an amp you know why I'm raving...

It seems there's always a catch! Net radio doesn't like reclock either - it freezes the audio. Everything else works well.

@ sub - would it be an easy addition to the config to add a audio rendering option for net radio; just like dvd playback has a choice?

Netradio will already use the audio renderer specified on the playback tab of the config app, but only when you've got <UseWindowsMediaPlayerForNetRadio>false</UseWindowsMediaPlayerForNetRadio> in config.xml

Thanks sub, can you confirm that this is not broken as I've got both playback & dvd renderers set but gbpvr doesn't seem to overide the system default when playing netradio. It overides the system default for tv however.

You can look in gbpvr.exe-native.log to check for yourself. It lists the filters being used in the directshow graph. You should be able see the audio renderer you requested listed.
