To close my original query on overlay giving a blank screen, as mentioned elsewhere in this thread removing the "auto" aspect ratio in the config.xml or hitting F7 to change aspect ratio several times does the trick. Thanks for everyone's help.

And now back to my picture tearing problem....turning on the trial "exclusive access to directx" option sounds interesting. What's the story on that?

Hmmm, I thought the problem had gone away but it seems to have come back again. I've now removed the hard patched purevideo settings and switched to overlay mode. I've bumped the priority of purevideo to the max so it is always used and switched to system default in the conf screen.

I've then confirmed that the nvidia purevideo decoder is being used in both recorded mode and livetv mode using graphedit (checking the latter using the reg hack sub posted in another thread, then removing it).

Having done all that, I'm still not getting a picture in livetv, even if I press F7 to change aspect ratio. If I record the exact same prog, or switch to timeshift mode, it displays fine. Interestingly, I can usually watch the first channel I select (although picture is very dark for some reason?) but if I change channel and/or change back, I get the black screen plus audio only problem again.

It all seems to point to different decoders being used, but as I said I've confirmed that isn't the case in graphedit. That said, livetv seems to go through a lot more steps first so something in that path must be causing the problem I guess?

Sorry the for long winded post but I'm really stuck now!

No one got any ideas on the above? Been playing about with it but still no joy. Is it right that livetv has a lot more steps in graphedit than normal mpeg2 playback? I'm assuming this has to be the difference ie why playback/timeshift works and livetv doesn't, but there doesn't seem to be anything I can change to fix it.

zip and attach your logs and I'll see if I can see any obvious problems.

Here they are, from a few days back but problem was happening then too.

As I said, livetv is definitely using the livetv decoder and since I've set its merit rating to highest I can change the video decoder option to "system default" - this enables me to access the pure video settings during playback.

Oddly, I can see the bit rate varying as livetv plays from that settings screen, but still with the black screen!

I cant see any attempts to use live tv in those logs. I can see you playing back several video files, but that is all.

Sorry about that I thought those contained it. I've done a restart and selected livetv straight off. As mentioned in an earlier post the first channel I selected displays (BBC2) but the picture is really dark. If I then change channel (ITV1) I get the black screen problem. Logs after doing this attached now.

The logs look fine. Do you get the same black screen problem with other decoders?

You could try the suggestion from this link to get a screenshot of your graph: http://forums.gbpvr.com/showpost.php?p=1...ostcount=7. Post the screenshot and I'll take a look.

No I only get it with purevideo, but purevideo is the only decoder which gives me satisfactory deinterlacing. Graph from graphedit attached. What is "video renderer0012" by the way?

That graph looks fine. All the right components.

Sorry, I dont know. I dont use this decoder myself, so I'm not that familiar with its quirks.

The item called 'Video Renderer' in this picture is the Overlay mixer. The item called 'video renderer0012' is the Overlay Renderer.
