I had a look at the internals to see os this dongle works and it still doesn't run full duplex so I will be interested to see the notes on the reason why some say this runs better with Vista.

Yea, I don't have my Vista machine hooked up, so I haven't tested it. I assumed that since they didn't have any release notes for it that its still in the experimental stage.

I've switched on my Vista boot disk to test it. It certainly seems to have the comms problem sorted. I have problems with LiveTV and mpgs but don't know whether it is the dongle or other factors.

I also got a green rectangle behind the menu screen so don't know what this is about.

BTW, spamdini, where did you find this dongle? I couldn't find the web page from your link and I couldn't find any reference to it on the hauppauge.com site.

Some progress but a ways to go yet it seems (for me, anyway). Interested in others findings.

I got the link from shspvr.com. The website is for Hauppauge Digital Taiwan. Their engineers working on the MVP must work there. If you go to http://www.hauppauge.com.tw/public/mediamvp/ you can see the various releases for the MVP and their release notes. Sometimes I have difficulty connecting there.

Thanks for the update. Its good to know that some progress is being made.

Thanks for that info. I will have a trawl there later.

Incidentally, I tried that dongle on an XP system and it goes fine. Might be my imagination, but it SEEMED to give a brighter image. It's hard to do an A/B test when you have to run downstairs, switch dongles, rush back upstairs, reboot the MVP then try to remember what the previous display looked likeSmile

Would be good if others use this thread for mutually beneficial info.

Cheers.

The link above doesn't work... Has it ever worked? Does someone have that dongle downloaded? Can I find it elsewhere (as in my mailbox) ? Big Grin

The latest dongle I could find is the dongle.bin contained within MediaMVPSetup_3.3.24338.EXE found at ftp://ftp.hauppauge.com/Support/MediaMVP/

Does anyone know off hand what version number would be that dongle?

That site is really weird. I did get the download as mentioned but I can't raise the home page. Just tried the download link in post #20 and that won't work anymore! The dongle is denoted as 1.1.52.0. Zehd, if you PM me with an email address I am happy to send it to you.

I just tried it, it didn't work. I tried it a few seconds later and it worked. Now its not working again. When its working, trying to go to http://www.hauppauge.com.tw directs you to http://www.hauppauge.com.

An unmanaged switch cannot be set to match you PC network speed like a managed switch can. I would recommend getting a Linksys SRW208 this is a small 8 port managed switch that you can set you speed to 100mbps Full Duplex if your PC network card supports it, remember the settings has to be the same if you manually set this up on the switch and PC. This switch will cost $118.00 and up I got one from Newegg.com for $139.00 and it works great. Also as we all know that TCP/IP Protocol for Microsoft has never been as good as it should be but that is another time and story for later.

Hi, Daryl. Thanks for comments. I don't think the remedy is to buy hardware, however, as there would still be no guarantee it would work. We just have to wait till the software gets sorted. Vista's network stack has been completely rewritten, I read, and it is a lot more efficient than XP's. On Vista I get 2.5Mbs from a 2Mbs connection where XP gives me 1.8Mbps. Don't ask how I get more speed than the published ISP connection rate as I don't know!
