I'll keep fiddling and see what happens - I'll try GBPVR and my TV card in another computer tomorrow (similar spec but with a decent separate graphics card) and see if I can get it running ok on that. At least it may narrow down the possible cause.

assuming your os is winxp, grab the dual core optimizer and the dual core drivers.

I would also suggest you investigate a suitable but not too expensive video card you might find some good suggestions here, and turn off the integrated video on the mobo. Maybe the integrated video was a feature you liked on this board, its probably ok for general use but maybe not for a media heavy system. Some video cards have their own hardware decoder which would be pretty awesome I have thought about getting one myself.

I half expected all along to have to buy a separate graphics card for this PC - having DVI output built onto the motherboard was worth a try, but I didn't think it would be up to the job. I suppose I'll find out tomorrow when I try a different PC (one with an ATI Radeon 9800 card in it).

If I need a separate card, I've been thinking about this one, which has MPEG hardware decoding. Do you think it'll be up to the job? It's cheap at around £30.

One other trick for smoother playback Knobby...Set the base priority for GB-PVR up to Above Normal in Task Manager. I think you can make a shortcut to do that automagically but I haven't tried yet.

Create a file gbpvr.bat on your desktop, and type in the following:

Start "GB-PVR" /ABOVENORMAL C:\Progra~1\devnz\gbpvr\gbpvr.exe

You can change ABOVENORMAL to HIGH for even more cpu priority.

I fitted the Compro T200 tv card in another PC (ECS motherboard, AMD64 3000+, 1Gb RAM, 128Mb ATI Radeon 9800 graphics card) and have exactly the same problem!

I set the priority for GBPVR to "High" and that almost cures the problem - only a very slight delay now when changing channels or adjusting the volume.

Could it be the tv card that is causing the problem, as it's the only thing in common with the 2 PC's (other than GBPVR)?

Oy. You might want to investigate different software decoders a bit more. What kind of chipset is in the two motherboards? Via or Nvidia? Check that you have the latest drivers installed for the mobo and tv card. I am not familiar with the compro card, perhaps you can find some reviews on it and see what the consensus is. There is always that hardware decoder vid card. Good luck.

The dual core PC has Nvidia chipset, the single core PC is Via.

How/where do I get other decoders from? Do I have to buy other software to get them?
