Exactly right. I ran it correctly this time and got the exact same results as BigMoose above.

If someone with development skills and visual studio has the problem, I'll email you the source code to the remote test utility to try it there in the debugger.

I have development skills but am a c/unix coder by trade, not windows/visual studio. The latest version of visual studio I have a copy of is probably 6 and well pre vista. Also sadly am unlikely to have the time with young kids or knowledge of windows to get far...

Just to get things right, this hasn't happened to everyone on vista who's run all the latest updates? Myself and the OP had the problem occur at the same time and it was after a vista update. No idea what was updated or if it's possible to roll it back out. Are there any with full auto updates that haven't seen this problem? Does it matter if it's 32 or 64bit? There are those of us with both with the problem I know... I'm wondering if I should just sod it and re install and turn off auto update once I get it stable.... Cause a PVR with no TV or recording is becoming rather frustrating!

Could this update caused the problems?

I run Vista 32 fine, but not the PC client but web streaming hasn't changed for me to the NMT. I noticed in Big Moose's log

Code:
2009-03-12 20:25:48.689    ERROR    [4]    Error starting webserver: Could not load file or assembly 'GBPVRRecordingService, Version=1.0.3299.13249, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.

Could this be an interact with desktop issue?

It's definitely related to a recent update. I've run GBPVR on this machine for well over a year and it's never had this problem then suddenly one night, the same moment the OP posts, I get this issue. It's not firewall, I've turned it off completely. I run nothing else on the machine other than GBPVR (connected to the LCD telly) and a wireless connection for EPG downloads and filesharing to laptops etc.

Its odd that its only affecting a very small number of people. I'm fully up to date with Vista patches and havnt seen any problems.

Assuming you've got a later .net runtime installed, I wonder if installing .net 2.0 runtime along side will help?

I tried this but couldn't work out how to install .net 2.0 on vista, it told me to go away as it was already installed as part of the OS...

I tried every possible uninstall
Uninstalled updates, uninstalled .Net Framework 3.5, installed updates, installed .Net Framework 3.5 but nothing helps the .Net Remoting problem.

But selecting a Restore Point before the .Net Framework SP1 update was successful. Then .Net Remoting started to work agian.
Then I installed the updates one by one and tested the GBPVR functionality.
After installing all the updates that came on 11-12 of mars one by one, GBPVR still works, so the problem must have been a combination of installations without reboot between the updates that required it, that caused the problem.

These updates might also have screwed up the restore points, becuase they where missing on one PC, so reinstallation of Vista was the only option.
Friends are "happy" again.
