Actually, I'm not even at square one anymore. for awhile I could no longer record; all my requests to start a recording were simply ignored.

Your renderer settings are not going to effect your ability to record. The recording service never even looks at those settings. Reproduce the problem and post the logs and I'll take a look.

I understand this. I feel that registering and de-registering all those muxers messed with the registry to a point where damage was done. I know that sounds vague, but it's all I can think of.

As for the one network not recording while all the others do, I actually think it is something in the broadcast system. I seem to remember reading something about a difference for MPG streams in broadcasts. This is a new network that I would never have tried to record before (a sports network).

Today I will set a restore point and back up my directory, then try again to get Live Preview working. You had suggested disabling the FFDSHOW filter; do you think I should uninstall FFDSHOW entirely?

Once I've tried that, I will post two logs; one after trying to record the dud network, and one after trying Live Preview. I suspect you might be able to help with the latter.
