the last logs you posted say you don't have the SoftPVR components installed:

I feel extremely stupid right now, after i click on the devices tab then double click on my tv tuner it brings up the device set up, at that point it try to add channels and there is no button there, i tryed to go back to GB PVR since i've had no luck with the NPVR so far, and i can not find the HVR 850 is there anyway i can get that detected? or should i still try my luck with NPVR? thanks so much again

If you dont have the SoftPVR components that johnsonx42 mentions above, then the analog side of your device will not be listed (since NPVR cant use it without those components). You're only seeing the ATSC digital side of the device.

If you install the WinTV v7 application, it'll get the components you need.

You mentioned earlier it was working in WinTV, but it must of been an earlier versions since WinTV v7 also requires those same componts NPVR does.

When i downloaded that from the website it will install the drivers but then it asks me to enter a cd into my cd drive which i can not do since i am on a netbook, but i did copy the file onto an external drive and set it up that way, will that way work again? i believe it is version 4.6

GB-PVR didnt support analog on devices without hardware MPEG2 encoders, like your HVR-850, so that wont help you. NPVR does support analog on this type of device, but needs those WinTV components mentioned earlier

If you post the logs again we can take another look to see if you've got the components installed.

GB-PVR won't work with the HVR-850 for analog video any easier than NPVR (in fact harder as the HVR-850 isn't in the stock direct.ini file). Even if you could make it work you would still need the Hauppauge SoftPVR components (which are part of WinTV7). Plus GB-PVR is dead... long live NPVR!

See the new getting started sticky at the top of the support forum. I've added a link in post 3 that will help you get the bits from WinTV7 that you need.

If you've gotten the WinTV7 bits installed, and you still can't get it working then yes, post logs again.

(edit: I was off updating my sticky while sub was answering ahead of me... nice to see we agree though; GB-PVR's limited support for analog on devices like the HVR-850 was expiremental anyhow)
