Ok, looks like I may have solved the problem!

I went back to the original dual core PC, fitted the new video card, and told the Cyberlink decoder to use hardware acceleration. This made no improvement to speak of (so looks like I could've got away without the new video card!)

Then, by a complete fluke, I was about to change the priority of the process for GBPVR to "High" (and just put up with the slight delays) when I noticed another option - "Set Affinity". I hadn't seen/noticed this before so went and had a look. GBPVR was set to use "CPU 0", so for fun I also clicked the box next to "CPU 1" so now GBPVR can run on both processors. Yep, you guessed it, it works a treat now!Big Grin

I tried just running it on "CPU 1" but it stutters just as bad as on "CPU 2". Back onto both processors and it works fine.

So my next question - is there a way of changing the affinity automatically through a batch file? I don't really want to have to change it manually everytime GBPVR starts.

Just set <ForceSingleProcessorAffinity>false</ForceSingleProcessorAffinity> in config.xml. Its usually set to true because lots of people have issues with Directshow stuttering while using dual cores.

Thanks Sub, I'll do that later. Looks like my problem was the other way round to most people - I do like to be different! Smile

That fixed a long time problem for me. I used to not be able to change channels in Live TV on the MVP without the video going into shakes, now its smooth as silk. Sub, I would suggest you put that option in the config app somewhere and suggest it for AMD x2 processors that have the drivers and optimizer installed on the system.

Yeah, I think I might need to make it more obvious.

Baaah! I guess I spoke too soon, on the MVP live tv problem. It worked once though. I am not seeing a problem on the pc with live tv and both cpus being used.

What exactly is your problem on the MVP?

Well, since you twisted my arm...

Big Grin

It plays recorded video fine.
If you go from the tv guide into live tv and stay on one channel its fine. Sometimes hitting the stop button while viewing live tv causes the mvp to drop the connection (reboot).

The main issue is trying to change channels while watching live tv usually results in one of 3 things:

1. The video becomes corrupted/jerky and never stops, you have to exit back to menu or guide then back in to live tv.
2. The video pauses unusually long at the point it should be changing then drops back to the guide or main menu whatever you launched tv from.
3. Drops connection and reboots.

Since I changed the force cpu affinity setting to false in the config.xml, I have been playing with it and while a few times it changes channels without the issues above it is still happening more than 50% of the time.

On a side note...not too long ago I started using I-xmltv for the EPG source, and the mvp started taking a long time for the menu to come up and had more problems dropping the conection than before. I disabled the details in the I-xmltv config, so then just getting the basic guide data again and that resulted in a better operation.

I'm using a standard 100 mbit ethernet network, both the server and mvp are connected to a netgear WGT624 firewall router+wireless. Some of my other specs are below. Looking forward to any possible suggestions. Smile
