Hi Colin,

Here's another link that might be useful.

I actually got around to trying out the other telnetd enabled dongle.bin of shsphr's site and this works fine.

So after playing about this morning, there are not log files generated which are easily accessible. Sub unless you know something or whereabouts these can be read from.

Though interestingly, if i run the mediamvp binary on the box, it does a get_power() check and says whether the box is up or down. So this is the next step, look through the mvpdist src and see what these calls are. If we can use this function(s), then adding in a daemon to send the WOL should be pretty easy.

Hopefully by that stage i can figure out the correct building of the kernel!

Cheers,
Colin.

I didn't think it would write a log file, but I did see an old post on showing output (to the screen) of the hauppauge software. I seem reasonably verbose, so I was working on the assumption you could probably pipe this output through your program.

Hmm, from what i can see it appears to be fpage. when some poeple from the linux hacking section over at shspvr have run fpage from the commandline it seems to output a lot of stuff.

i'll play later on, but i agree if we can find the right crap spewing binary then we can write something to take standard input and parse it. Hopefully there are enough cpu cycles spare to do that.

Wonder if its possible to tie this into the place that handles the ir signals?

Colin.

Hi Colin,

Have you had any progress yet with the WOL?

No not yet. I have the ether-wake compiled and another little utility to parse the output from fpage but i need to figure out how to get them running on the MVP. I guess I am missing libraries or something. nede to look at mvpmc to see how it is put togetherm

Hi Colin,

Hows it going with the WOL. Have you had any luck yet getting it to work? Or is it proving to be a bit of a nightmare.

Sorry have not been able to look at this lately, but yes this is proving to be a tougher area to work in than i thought [Image: sad.gif]

I'll maybe talk with some of the hackers over at shspvr (if i can get a break from work for a while!Wink on how to build custom binaries - it cannot be that hard, can it!

Just wanted to know if you ever got to the bottom of this WOL issue ?

I'm also using MVP and would like my server to go into standby when not in use ( which is most of the time ).

One solution might be to use a USB LAN adaptor and set the PC to wake on USB. But the reduced bandwidth might be a killer.

Tonight I had a play with the wake on modem ring option and was able to wake my pc via the "Ring" line on the external COM port (using a 9V battery). Now all I need to do is design a circuit to detect activity on the network and generate the "ring" signal.
