When pushing "tv guide" something is going on in the background, perhaps downloading data? There's no notice of that.
The "downloading files" notice is a "continuous" one, which started at reboot time.

Sometimes my port settings don't function, don't know why. Same now, but got them working. Problem persist, but than I noticed the stream uses port 8866 (I set 8866 up for NEWA) instead of 8790 and 8791.
I haven't used 8866 with newa on an external network recently, but it seems that port is now closed. See it seems there are 2 problems (ndroid using different ports than setup and my ports are messed up).

At 10.27 I eventually got the notice "download complete" (epg data).

To clarify...

When you stream Live TV nDroid will always connect to the npvr web server (the same port as NEWA) which defaults to 8866. If you change that port number in the npvr settings, nDroid will get the change next time the download completes.

If you set transcode options for Recordings then nDroid will also connect to the npvr web server because the nDroid Service isn't able to transcode.

If you don't have the transcode option set for Recordings then nDroid will use the nDroid Service streamer (default 8791). This is also the same port for streaming Videos and Music.

For general communication nDroid uses port 8790. If you change that port number then the nDroid Service streamer will always listen on a the port +1. For example, change it to 7654 and the streamer will listen on 7655.

I now notice I'm having problems with newa also. Haven't used it for a few months now. Going to fix that first and will get back after that. Can take a while though.

I thought this over and I got it wrong. Here's my new thought about it:
When I now watch tv guide, in de bottom right there's the epg details of the first show of the day and this doesn't change until pressing a show.
It should dynamically change to the detail of the show that's in the middle of the epg-data timeslot shown. So when I scroll the epg-data (the timeslot), these details changes too automatically.
You may or may not want to hightlight the middle of the epg-data timeslot shown (more clear if you do to show which is "selected" and thus which details are shown).
Then, when you press on the show, you can show a little pop-up screen making it possible to record or watch the show, then going on to either a menu or playing the video.

I've been testing NEWA and nDroid, here are the results.

NEWA:
Seems that NEWA does everything wright with internal and external ip, except streaming (recording/video), so playing/downloading (recording/video) and watching live tv works fine.
I am going to investigate that further and post in another subforum, but thought it good to mention it.

Then my tests with nDroid:
LOCAL LAN:
Live tv works.
nDroid crashes when pressing "media"
Recordings can't be played (error message in vlc).

EXTERNAL LAN (via static IP):
Live tv: vlc gives an error.

I've seen a crash when trying to access Media - I'm hoping it's fixed for the next release. As for playing fro Recordings have you tried any other Android video player apps or tried changing setting in the vlc player?

Again, this could be a vlc issue (especially as it isn't working with recordings for NEWA either). To be honest, I've never had any success with anything except music when streaming over the internet even though I have a 4Mbs upstream speed with my broadband provider. It seems like the Android player apps time-out before they can get enough data.

Cheers,
Brian

I've tried every player, but no luck. Which settings can I change?

I am posting on the NEWA thread to figure out the streaming problem. Maybe if that works again, the streaming on nDroid will work again too.

The key things to look at are hardware / software decoding options. I use MX Player and it will fail to play anything if I enable HW decoding - in general it's OK with SW decoding. Another thing to look at is HW graphics acceleration which may also cause problems depending on the device.

Cheers,
Brian
