Got it now, I didn't realize I needed to be streaming something before it can be detected. I thought having the MVP connected was enough to be recognized. Any reason why this was not the case, am asking because the wife could still be browsing and choosing shows to watch, while I'm tinkering then decide to restart recording or worse reboot. Then I get the whack

Also, as a wishlist, can Live TV show watching CSI - AXN Channel instead of watching CSI - Channel 6. since my mapped channels are not the actual channels of my cable.

Also I noticed that after a reboot, the MVP tray does not appear along with the GBPVR tray, is this normal?

The event stream the icon watches to determine what's going on doesn't indicate MVP connect/disconnect activity in the current release of GB-PVR. Sub has been kind enough to add these events to a forthcoming release, at which time the icon should more accurately reflect connection status.

I'll make a note to try and make the tooltip messages more flexible at some point. Probably not this weekend though Wink

I would expect the MVP tray icon to appear whenever there is a running copy of the GB-PVR MediaMVP Server app. You might see if maybe the icon is being hidden by XP, but it's quite possible that the application is starting up before the desktop is fully initialized and doesn't quite make it into the tray Sad

I posted an updated version of the plugin to the wiki that will allow you to configure the strings that are shown:
Plugin MVPTrayIcon
I'm not really following your comment. Did you mean that the updated version didn't work for you, or that you weren't able to change the strings?

I posted an updated version of the plugin to the wiki that will display the "idle" icon as soon as the MVP connects:
Plugin MVPTrayIcon
Please note that this feature will only work with GB-PVR v95.11 or newer.

Hi posted this on the wishlist, but since this is the main thread of mvp tray icon, am repeating it here.

Wish MVP tray icon can be extended to a full blown plug-in where each MVPs actions can be viewed from different locations. Since the MVP Tray can determine the stream each MVP is doing from the PVR machine, it can be extended by just storing it in a database and be extracted by a plug-in that can be viewed from each MVP. This would be useful in several instances such as not deleting a movie, video, audio being viewed by another in another room, or it can also determine/prevent a shutdown, hibernate, standby call that will disrupts somebody else's viewing, it can also determine if the video my children are watching has already ended, etc. etc.

I've installed this dll yet the tray icon does not appear for my MVP. Anything special I need to do? Also, which logfile contains information about the loading of plugin dlls?

That's all that should be required for a basic install. There were some reports earlier that users with the "Allow service to interact with desktop" setting disabled didn't see the icon. Try launching the "GB-PVR MediaMVP Server" application by hand and see if you get an icon.

Not sure ... I think problems with individual plugins might be reported in the regular gbpvr.exe.log files.

Ok -- I believe the problem is that I am running windows server 2003. That PC does not have a monitor on it, so I do everything via Terminal Services Client (RDP). If I connect to the server using mstsc /console, I can see the icon no problem -- it's just that I do not normally connect to my server in this way.

Hi

I've been having trouble recently in that my MVP tray icon stopped appearing. If I ran a 2nd instance of the MVP server it would run, but the built-in one wouldn't display.

At first I put it down to replacing the standard GB-PVR tray icon with the SlimmGB-PVR tray icon. However after discussing things further on that thread, it appears that the problem isn't down to the Slimm icon, but instead due to how I'm running the GBPVR recording service.

I'd initially let it run as usual as a local service. However I then ran into problems with my MediaMVP not being able to access network shares (either UNC or mapped drives).

I posted on the forum re. this and someone suggested instead that I should run the GBPVR recording service in it's own user account. This certainly fixed the problem and network shares now work. However it retrospect it appears that this has broken the MVP tray icon Sad

I tried switching back to local system (+ allowing interaction with the desktop) and it does indeed work again. The thing is that on balance it's more important for me to be able to access my network files than to use the MVP Tray Icon, but ideally I'd like both to work!

Does anyone have any good suggestions?

Thanks

Alan
