I'm seriously considering getting an R5000hd modded Dish reciever... I wonder how it would play with GBPVR... Does anyone have any experience?

As far as I can tell, the modification that the r5000hd guys do basically makes it so that you can record and play/view live tv from VLC or other players... Does anyone know if this and the external recorder plugin would play nicely with GBPVR?

The analog quality of recordings just isnt good enough... video is too grainy to be shown on a high-res (1280x920 or higher res) plasma... plus, when it is stretched to full screen the video is all pixelated because the original image is only 400+/- lines...

Does anyone else know if there are any satelite boxes that have firewire working like the motorola boxes described along this thread?

Might want to sniff around the AVS forum looking for info. on the firewire\sat box.

The Radeon 9250 did not seem to help with the HD mpeg that I captured. I installed the proper drivers and catalist software. Should I take back to CC and order something online with a little more horsepower?

I did search for ATI on this forum & spotted a user who suggested nothing less that a 9600. Perhaps I have some other steps to take before I see smoother video? Did not look any better than the onboard intel video card.

Think i'm missing something.

Just found a vendor on Ebay that's selling the NVIDIA 6200 PCI card for $105.00. Should I take the Radeon card back to CC??

Personally i got a fanless Radeon 9550 , it has double the pipelines of the 9200 and costs the same. I have no real problem viewing the HD through the DVI cable to my HDTV. Also it uses the latest catalyst drivers the 9250 is no longer supported by the catalyst drivers. My only issue was sound, it disappeared one day and I never could figure out why, but I installed an AC3 filter and used that for all sound and boom it works again.

Sub, I notice you can change the video playback parms with a button, will you be able to do the same with the selected sound decoder? Also and interesting feature of GALLM allows you to select decoders / playback stats by filetype.

You getting anywhere with the Moto FW connections?
I used the drivers originally written for MCE 2005. I still am trying to determine why my HD mpg's are not playing smoothly. I thought the Video card U/G would do it. Perhaps I need more powerfull video card?

With the HD files, are they MPG or .TS files? There's a big difference on how GBPVR does playback on these. MPG's it uses your selected decoder... .ts files it uses the system default.

Also, with the 9250 have you installed the DVD/MPG decoder, and then downloaded the update on the ATI web site? After it's installed I know you have to select the "Cyberlink Decoder (ATI)" in config to use it. (Not the exact name, but something like that). I don't know if it can be used on .TS files or not... I've only used it on MPGs. Also, I don't know what versions of Radeon cards include it. Like I said previously, it came with my 9200 but not my X1600 Pro, and can't even be downloaded and installed with my X1600 Pro CD.

Its not something I've ever looked into. I'm not in a country that uses this type of setup, so you guys will pretty much have to work this one out yourselves.

Where is this thread going? Is their anyone actively working on a procedure on how to implement the Motorola boxes with GBPVR? I'm so new to this I'm still working on trying to get smooth HD playback.

I 'm now able to get channel.exe to change channels w/o problems. Next step is how to get GBPVR to "see" the FW stream.

Thanks

There isn't anything else to do , everything is documented in the thread - use the external recorder and the command scripts posted. I plan to experiment with the use of graphedit rather than vlc since you changing channels while viewing blows up and it may be faster.

For the record, I recompiled the External Recorder so that it didn't do a kill, meaning I didn't need to use a batch file. I tried the script CarpeVideo posted, didn't get it to work right off and instead of figuring out what I was doing wrong I just changed the code. I don't really don't get why the External Recording is doing a kill before the stop logic. If someone is interested I can post the new .dll but to be clear it's just a hack. At somepoint I'll probably reorganize the code to issue the stop first and if it fails, then do a kill().

Also, if anyone is interested I did finally figure out how to enable VLC's telnet interface and then shut it down when the recording is complete. CarpeVideo's --single_instance discovery is simpler but I think it keeps you from opening another VLC instance running on the server. Again, if anyone's interested I can post what I came up with.

CarpeVideo... regarding the channel change problem, how does it manifest itself? I may have run into this last night when I had a recording crash just a couple seconds into the recording. I can have VLC open viewing the firewire data real-time and change the channel without trouble, but perhaps VLC is more sensitive when writing it's output to a MPG file as I was doing last night.
