Well I think there is a little confusion here. The image that I mentioned is the background image which the menus are built on. There is no current way to change the menu picture outside of the recording. I could make it use an image from the directory going forward if it exists and you haven't set one with the edit tool. Does that make sense?

Yes it does. I will delete my modification to the WIKI. Sorry for the confusion.

Please note that my comments were of the "wish list" variety and I am not expecting a change any time soon.

Too late, it's already in for the next version...
If there is a jpg image in the directory with the mpg file, the image is used if the image has not been set with the edit tool.

Thanks for a great addition, I tried this for the first time.

I'm excited about using the cc feature. You mention two tools for creating the srt, which one would you recommend using for best results on the DVD?
Are many people trying this particular feature out yet? What seems to be working best for you? I'd love to easily create DVDs with cc (well hard-coded subtitles in the end right?) for my father.

From reading the posts about dvdauthor, it doesn't look like there will be "soft" subtitles (turn display on/off in the DVD player) anytime soon from those tools?

I was a little surprised to find that you don't navigate via / pull file location out of the gbpvr recordings database. I have recordings spread across 4 drives, so it's a little bit of navigation sometimes to find what I needed, but no big deal. Maybe I missed a config item somewhere. It pulls the show episode details information up just fine, though.

I did once have an issue when navigating by filesystem where I went all the way into a show's episodes directory (Myvideos/ showname/10 or 12 episodes) and trying to navigate back out, the selection always skipped the '..' item, so I could not get back out Smile I haven't been able to make it repeat though.

I guess my only request at the moment would be to have a GUI button for mpg2srt for the selected show, so one could get those going without having to VNC into the box. Maybe even set up a series of them to run one after the other so a bunch could run unattended when the machine is quiet.

Thanks for the addition, nice work-

Not sure what you mean by the two tools to add CC's. There are two tools that pull the CC's from an mpg, ccextractor and mpg2srt. I use mpg2srt. I have a little difficulty with the captions sliding on my system so I retime them when I pull them to get them right. I put that program on the caption page on the wiki a while back.
The captions are toggled on/off via the DVD menu. DVD author had an option for that and I use it.

As part of my postprocessing.bat, I always pull the captions so I have never needed to run mpg2srt offline. I am finishing up another modification to the standalone skiptool that includes a job queue primarily for transcoding, but it could easily handle running mpg2srt also (as well as comskip etc)

I use the recordings dir as the starting point. I think there can be only one. It should also show up with you navigate to the top. I could pull all the video library dirs and put them on the top page as well. That way you would only have to go up to the top and then back directly to wherever you want.

If you see the error again with the navigation, post your pvrx2.exe logs.

I think we are on the same page re: the two srt-creating programs but didn't know it.

I hadn't looked at the caption page for a bit, I'll look for it. I thought when I reread this thread just now, the cc part of dvdauthor was reported in the Oct30 posts to be non-functional, and I didn't see a post that it was working- excellent!

It makes sense about the recordings directory now, I should have noticed that. I move the current recordings directory to different drives (D:/MyvideosD E:/MyvideosE etc) depending on free space. I just assumed the application would pull everything from the recordings.db since it's pulling data from that anyway and that file contains the location of every recording on the system no matter which drive it is on, but it's no biggie it was just my assumption, this is fine.

I'm off to the captioning section of the wiki. Thanks for the pointer.

Ah, the captions that were discussed there were an idea that pBs and I were trying to get working with DVD author. The idea was that the captions in the mpg should be able to be used directly and not pulled by mpg2srt and then re-encoded as bmps and put into the subtitle stream by spumux. We couldn't get that work with dvdauthor, but the bmp method does work fine. That said, the timing of the captions may not be exactly where you want it. I added a value in skin/burndvdx2/skinntsc.xml (or skinpal.sml) to adjust this. If you strip commercials I try to fix the srt file, to reflect this but I didn't test this extensively.

Just a quick FYI - there are several cmd files in the 3rd party/burnDvd directory hardcoded to c:/program files/devnz/gbpvr ... so if your install folder is not the default then you'll need to change these by hand to get this plug-in to work correctly.

That's a good point. I'll put a note on the wiki about that. It is the paths to ffmpeg and mencoder that will get into trouble if they don't exist in the standard location. I should be able to fix that going forward, so I'll look into that

A couple questions.

Are there any advantages to using Nero over imgburn? When it runs with Nero does it insist on re-encoding like Nero has a habit of doing?

If you attempt to burn an HD video, will either or both re-encode the file?
