I have two pc's on my network. The one running GBPVR has XP Pro, the other one has XP Home. I used GBPVR config to add shared directories on the XP Home machine to the Video Library and Music Library directories screen.

I can see and play the files on the XP Home machine from the pc running GBPVR. On the mvp, however, I can see the shared directory on the XP Home machine, but I can't see any files or subfolders in it when I enter it, just [..].

I have tried searching the forums for "mvp network drive", but none of the info I found seems to help.

The MVP server runs under a different account, so doesnt have access to your mapped network drives. If you change the recording service to start under your own account, instead of localsystem, then you should be able to see the network drives.

I had a similar problem and found the following post by Tipstir to be quite helpful.Big Grin Perhaps this should be put into the wiki?

For the PC you have made as a GBPVR (HTPC) that's your hub right there, for each PC you have on your network I am sure you have set aside a default user access screen name and password. That's how GBPVR would access each PC.
[b]
click on start
click on run
type: services.msc
scroll down the list
find GBPVR
right click on GBPVR
click on properties
click on Log On (tab)
change it from Local System Account
To This Account: user ID
To this Password:xxxxxxxxxx
Comfirm Password: xxxxxxxx
click apply
click okay
click on stop service
click on restart service
Try it now...

Okay, I did followed Tipstir's suggestion, but still no dice on the MVP. It works fine on the PC, but it actually messes up the local (on my HTPC) media directories (music, video, and pictures) which had been working fine. It comes up with an error on the MVP that says "Could not find a part of the path T:\Video". I get this error on each directory now, even those on the local PC, and the error message reports all the paths as being on the network drive letter. For example, a local path is F:\video, but the MVP error message displays "T:\video\Videos1" (T is the letter assigned to the network drive, "Videos1" is the name I assigned to it in the configurator).

Okay, this is very interesting. Each time I select a directory, it appends it's "name" to the path in the error message. So the second time I selected "Videos1", the path in the error shows up as T:\Videos\Videos1\Videos1. If I then select "Videos2", the path shows up as T:\Videos\Videos1\Videos1\Videos2. I understand that this may not be the root of my problem but maybe just an issue with the error message routine, but I figured it was at least worth mentioning.

Any ideas on how to resolve this?

Brad

Forgive me barging in, but I assume that drive T: is a mapped drive - which will not be visible to the session running GBPVR. Even though its using the same user name and password, GBPVR is still run as a seperate session on the PC, so its not effected if you are logged off and/or another user logs on to use the PC.

The soltution is to specify the 'share' as a network path instead of a drive letter, ie. \\server1\sharename

Hope this helps, Sean

Ah, so a mapped drive cannot be used by the GBPVR service. That explains a lot.

Following your advice, I did get it to work as a share. I did have to add the drive letter though, so the format was \\computername\driveletter\folder\subfolder, but it works like a champ! What's also nice is that you can edit the "name" you assign to the folder in config.xml. That was convenient as in the course of troubleshooting this I had made a bunch called test1, test2, etc.

Thanks for the help, you guys are the best!
