Plug-In Versions

Each time I see a notice that mentions a version number of a plug-in, I wonder how do I find out what version do I have installed? Is ther currently a way to find this out? If not, I would like to see the version number information listed along with the plug-in name in CONFIG.

Unfortunately GB-PVR has no idea what version a plugin is.

It would have been a good idea at the beginning of the project for me to have specified a method for GB-PVR to query the version, but I cant easily retrofit this now, since it would required every single plugin to be updated to add support for this query.

You understand the implications more than I do but don't all the plug-ins have to go through somewhat of a re-write to be compatible with PVRX2 anyways?

Most have already been through that so I'm not going to ask them to do it again. There is also a large number of old plugins that are unlikely to ever be updated. (author has gone or similar)

Unfortunatly no, not consistently. Some might come with readme files that show the version. Some might have shown the version when you view the file properties etc. Nothing that applies across all plugins.

I understand where LeWE is coming from, as I get confused as well and sometimes install the plugin twice thinking it's an updated version. Maybe the plugin developers might agree to start with a standard versioning method starting from 1.016 onwards.

Quite a few including myself use the properties page of the dll to show the version details. It's worth starting here.

I think adding this information to the SYSTEM plugin would be great. It could list all the plug-ins that it can find that are installed and indicate their Version from the DLL if it is available. This would require no forced recoding on the part of plug-in authors.

Alternatively, I'm sure someone could come up with a stand-alone plug-in fairly easily that could do this.

Here is a windows executable that will list all DLLs in plugin directories and version information. I don't have time to write a plugin, but would be glad to share the code if someone would like to take it on...
