Hi,

I have my machine set to hibernate after 5 minutes.

When listening to music using the webadmin interface from another machine, the machine drops off after the 5 minutes.

Is there a way to get it to stay awake while I'm listening to music?

Thanks

If your machine supports it, you might try enabling the "Wake on Lan" or WOL function of your motherboard. You would need to access it via the bios before your system boots up. I've never used it, but I understand that it should wake your computer, or keep it awake, when there is network activity directed to it.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

I actually have it activated and use WOL to wake the machine across the network -- but it doesn't keep it awake.

Hi,
I have experimented a bit more. When I stream a video across the network, the machine stays awake. When I stream music, the machine goes to sleep after five minutes.

Is there a way to change the "sensitivity" of the hibernate function?

I'm thinking along the lines of the disc activity being sufficient to keep the machine awake when I stream video but not when I stream music. Is that total rubbish?

Thanks

Hi the_e

I had some problems controlling the hibernation. I have written this small utility which creates some disk-activity every 40. sekund. It takes the number of keep-alive-minutes as input eks: ph.exe 120 will keep the pc alive for 2 hours.
when the time has run out it runs a batfile "PHbat.bat" if it exist (i use that for defrag and reboot).

Don't know if that will help you...

Sounds like you might be along the right lines, can't see any easy way to change the sensitivity (maybe there is a registry tweak?). Alternativley maybe there is a 3rd party app to control your hibernation sensitivity?

Hi all,

I just installed gbpvr on another machine (a newer one -- Asus Pundit with onboard lan) to see if it may have something to do with my older machine.

After the 5 minutes were up, the pundit went to sleep and the music I was listening to on the client machine stopped (using vlc as the player).

Anyone else have any ideas? When music or videos are being streamed, does the buffer get filled, and then the rest of the song/video gets loaded as necessary? Or does the whole of the song get downloaded to the client machine, played and then a request made for the next song (wouldn't be the case with large video files?)? Even if the latter were correct, there should still be activity every 3 and a half minutes or so at the end of every song -- or am I getting my wires crossed?

I'm using the newest version of gbpvr and webadmin of course.

Thanks

Hi,

Just as an experiment, I shared a folder on my gbpvr machine with mp3s in it and started it to play on the client machine in vlc. Hibernate after 5 minutes is still set and nothing else has changed.

However, this time, the machine stays awake!

Anyone know what could be going on?

Thanks
