Its pretty straight forward. If I make patch, its a replacement executable or DLL. Just replace the file of the same name in the c:\programfiles\devnz\gbpvr directory.

In general for most patches, you will also need to stop the recording service, then replace (overwite) the file(s) and then restart the recording service (you do this in the Program files menu directly, or indirectly by restarting config and clicking OK.

Gents
thanks for your last two replies. I could not make sense of the patch because when I opened the zip file all I got was one file GBPVR with no extension. Now I see it was to be a folder in a corrupted zip file (wizip said it was corrupted but winrar opened it). No matter sinece I am on .97.09 and apparently I do not need that patch.

I think I got the thread out of sequence by posting twice. Can anyone check my post #45 above and comments
thanks a lot for your patience

I seem to be having the same problem with the 97.09 version.
It seems to start loading then kills the connection and restarts with locating server...

Same here. Worked for a couple days then the MVP would get stuck at "loading application". Had to drop back to 96.08. Sub 97.9 has great potential but I don't think it was ready for general release. There are some very strange MVP problems that pop up out of nowhere. My logs look the same as others.

BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZT

Wrong answer partner.

97.9 worked like a charm for nearly a week. After the first problem NONE of the different dongles will work. And, I know for a fact that my router is serving the proper IP to the right MAC. FYI I am a UNIX Admin with Cisco cert so I know networks. I also know XP quite well. Also my router has built in utils with the WRT mods done to it.

Dropping back to 96.8 has solved the problem. MVP gets the same IP addr it gets when on 97.9

Soooooooooooooooooooooo ... you can't blame router/network for this. Therefore the only logical explanation is that there is a bug in 97.x MVP hook that was/is not there in 96.x

Also I am no noob to GBPVR. Been using it for well over a year and many different versions.

Tipstir,

I don't want this to turn into a pissing match. My experience FAR outdistances my certifications. I've been doing this for over 20 years professionally. I know networks inside and out. Both from a Domain aspect and a Workgroup (or Home, as you like to call it) aspect. Not to mention very large corporate networks.

My router is NOT running the B.S. loaded crap that comes from linksys. Mine is custom WRT code. My router works flawlessly, and has with everything, including ALL previous versions of GBPVR.

Unlike you, for the last 2 years my network has been perfect.

'nuff said.

My MVP contacts the router, gets it's IP, Displays the screen you show and then hangs. NOT A ROUTER ISSUE.

What you have done may have fixed your network. In looking at many of your previous posts you have had substantial network problems in the past. Glad you got them right finally. This however, is not network related. It's a problem that has only came up in 97.x with many people reporting that the problem now exists where it never existed in 96.x. So obviously there is a problem with this new version.

Hi, I am also seeing this behaviour I upgraded from a very stable 96.12 release to 97.9, thinking that all the 97.7 issues had been ironed out, I also upgraded to the sqllite db at the same time.

the upgrade went fine with no apparent problems.

I upgraded the dongle.bin to the latest from the hauppauge beta site [dongle_3_2_24110b.bin] this took a very long time to connect originally about 5 hours I seem to remember and then displayed a screem saying it was saving the settings, although it didnt say where !!

this release seems to be very unstable and often disconnects the mvp.

I have tried going back to version 96.12 but although the mvp loads it never gets past connecting to server screen, which I'm finding quite frustrating.

My dhcp server is a linux box and is working perfectly as it has been for about 3 years, the mvp is direct connected via a cross over cable to the gbpvr server as it has been since I first bought it, the gbpvr server has another network card which is shared for internet connection. Like ram4x4nut I have also been doing this professionally for over 20years and I know there is nothing wrong with my network, it has to be something which has changed in the app, or it is the dongle.bin but I am unable to get any of the other dongles to connect anymore so I do wonder if the latest dongle has written something semi fixed to the mvp, I have tried powering off the mvp overnight to see if lack of power might clear some setting.

I am using the contourHC skin and I suppose I should run some tests using the standard blue skin, although I cant see that changing the skin will make any difference. What I find very odd is that sometimes I can leave musiclibrary2 running for several hours without a problem, yet other times it will only play for about 20 mins before the fault occurs. I haven't tried watching a recording yet but I doubt it would work and the WAF would go right out the window.

not that it seems relevant my capture cards are pvr350 and nova-t pvr usb2

I cannot get live tv to work at all in this release it will play a short time then continually repeat a few seconds of video, if I then press stop and try and watch another channel it still repeats the few seconds of the last channel.

All in all very puzzling

the errors in the log are either

I know you are going to think I am crazy, but give this a try:

Lock the port that conencts to your MVP to 100/half duplex. It won't do any harm to the streaming because the MVP changes to half duplex after it loads the dongle.bin anyhow. I have found that all four of my MVP's now connect every time. Before, it was hit or miss and depending on the type of switch they were connected to, sometimes never loaded.

I would be willing to try that (I assume you mean locking the GBPVR PC's NIC to half duplex) except for the fact that the wife says "don't do that again" ... so until the real reason for this problem in 97.x is found and fixed, I'll be staying on a very stable 96.8 rev although I was really enjoying MySQL and not having to manually shrink the Access DB Sad
