Hi,

I will elborate:
I tried most of the settings of the BIOS. Specifically, the BIOS is set up to:
  1. S3(STR) standby mode.
  2. Allow PCI device PME# to wake the computer.
  3. Allow USB devices to wake...
  4. Allow keyboard & mouse to wake.
Changing PME# setting had no effect. My BIOS (a fairly recent MSI board, with PCIe, SATA etc - MSI K8N Neo4-F) has no setting for Wake-On-LAN.
However, when you edit the device itself via device manager, there is one setting related to Wakeup - "WakeOnLAN from Power Off". It has made no difference in either setting.
The network adapter is the nForce-4 on-chip controller.

And shanes - when I used wol <MAC_Addr> with the MAC address of the PC in question, nothing happened.

Thanks,
GGF

You would connect through http:\\congenictv.connectip.net:7647\gbpvr\login.aspx

Thanks Tipstir, yup that's what I have with NO-IP.com, it has a Dynamic Update Client (DUC) that runs so that it notifies them if my WAN IP changes and i can enter a URL that's easier to remember like the one you suggested Smile I had to open up a port from my router to my gbpvr machine too. But thanks for letting me know!

Un-installed "logmein.com" kept getting update messages in front of my GBPVR screen.
GBPVR is running on a stand alone box without keyboards/mouse SDTV is used as display.
I use an in-house laptop connected via a lan and make any mods to the GBPVR box. (better than carrying a 40lb monitor up two flights of stairs)

Installed UltraVNC looks good, except I can't get the ct/alt/del (task manager) button to work on the viewer.

Does this not work on UltraVNC??

folkboat,

2 things.. one you can disable updates/messages for logme-in in preferences...

yes if you use the ultravnc server component with its viewer you will have a little toolbar that allows you do resize the screen , fullscreen and CTRL/ALT/DEL,etc....

It's in the menus (send special keys, or something like that).
That's actually what I don't like about all VNCs. They don't handle system keys (CTRL-ALT-DEL, CTRL-SHIFT-ESC / WindowsKey, even not ALT-TAB).

I use NetOp, which seems to give me the best performance, and handle those system-keys.
It also has other modes, where you can open a session only for file transfer (no desktop), or other means of controlling (task manager, CMD window, etc.).
However, it's commercial... and still won't handle the video stream.

On the other hand - if what you're interested is controlling playback (pause, play, vol+/-, next/prev ch+/-, etc) - I'm in the process of building this plugin that will come with a client to control GB functoins over a TCP connection.
It will take time (my first plugin...)

Please tell me if it interests anyone (can be my beta-testers when time is due).

Thanks for the response..........

Yes I am using UltraVNC server and viewer, I see the tool bar however in full screen or not the ctl/alt/del button does nothing. Nor does pressing ctl/alt/del on the keyboard.

Tried registering on the UltraVNC board, however I'm getting a server error I'll try it later.

YES the free version of logmein allows you disable updates etc - however in my case it didn't work.

Very odd, I have had no problems ever like that with UltraVNC... perhaps you have ctrl-alt delete disabled on your desktop??? there are reg settings to do that..

What happens when you rightclick on task bar and select task-manager?

or press the button for sending Ctrl-Esc?

what version of UltraVNC server client are you running??
I have both LogmeIn and UltraVNC ... (kinda like having 2 back doors, although currently I have removed logmein to see if its interfering with my MVP Rev H2)

Also I run Process Explorer in my systray all the time I love the 'history function' and I made that my default task manager... you can get it from SysInternals.com

MadCat - once that plug in is developed I would love to see it integrated with EWA/WebStream solution... so I can watch TV from home =) ... so keep it an open API if you can...

I too have that problem with UltraVNC. So, I've just made a shortcut to the taskmanger in the quicklaunch menu.

The only issue with UltraVNC is "ctl/alt/del" button, all other hotkey functions work. Works fine directly on the GBPVR box.

Soooooo I re-installed logmein disabled "check for updates" and hopefully I won't be getting "update" messages in the middle of my GBPVR screen in 30 days.

By the way ctl/alt/del works fine with logmein and its a lot faster.

Sometimes you just have "bad technology days".
